Where Will The Lakers Finish?

Post#1 » by GoLakers1990 » Sun Oct 12, 2014 1:51 pm

My biggest concern this season is where the team will finish because, as most of you know, Kobe most likely has 2 years left and baring something miraculous or a robbery trade, we probably won't win another chip until he's gone. This is different than asking about their finish in the division, because this post pertains more to what type of draft pick they will have (if any). So where does everyone think the Lakers will finish this season?

I'm very worried that if the team stays healthy (I know that's a big if) Kobe's never give up/win at all costs nature along with the rest of the team will bring them to an 8-10 place in the West.

This is the last thing I want. I'm honestly hoping they lose every game this season so they can get another high draft pick. Just wanted to see what other Laker fans thought because I'm praying we don't get an 8 seed lol.

New to the forum. Look forward to discussing Lakers basketball with everyone.

first off, welcome to the forum. this thread has been popping up over the past year or so, because that's the conventional way teams rebuild

but the lakers aren't like most teams, the lakers don't tank

even if they don't make the POs and lose the draft pick to phoenix, the front office is hoping that the lakers show enough potential, chemistry and talent to lure top line talent (love, gasol, LMA, whoever) in 2015 and springboard the lakers back into semi-contention

surely that's better than a mid-low lottery pick and yet another season of morale-sapping losing

Thanks for the welcome brother! I completely agree with your post. I would love for the lakers to lure a big free agent next summer.

My problem is, I've lost faith in the Lakers ability to do that until Kobe leaves after "busting" in free agency the past couple years. So my next question is, is the best/most realistic scenario for the Lakers to not necessarily "tank", but lose due to the team not being good and get a high draft pick or finish 7-12 in the west and hope to lure a big free agent? And if so, who? I'm just not sold on the Lakers being able to do that.

The question was where not when. So I guess the answer would be at the Staples Center on April 15th vs the Kings

Too bad the Lakers won't lose every game, so the tank thing is moot and it's not like it helped us last season. Yeah we got Julius to show for it but in all honesty that was luck to get him at 7.

We got him at that spot because of the stupidity of the teams in front of us. Looking back at the top 10 picks, only us and Milwaukee got it right. The Bucks got a guy who want's to be there and Julius will help us improve.

The West is dammed good. Unless both Nash and Kobe are totally healthy, Boozer can still play, Randle contributes significantly and there is something close to Linsanity, Lakers have no chance making the playoffs.

Unfortunately not very good this year imo. The guys of the future are not all there yet and some of the current starters are just place-holders. I'd like to see Kobe have one more kick at the can either next year or the year after. I love Nash but he's practically done. This is also a test year for Lin, if he doesn't deliver they'll need to get a bonafide foor general like a Rondo. I see this year being a transition year for the Lakers, groom the youngsters and see what pieces are missing for the future.

I think we need to evaluate the season in 20 game increments... If we can stay around .500 for the first portion than we stay the course... If we ever drop aignificantly below, we need to huddle up and possible shift gears... Our pick is top 5 protected (Nash deal) & Houston's pick should be in the late teens... We don't tank but assets are assets... Those are two compelling picks in a marginal draft... I was extremely dissapointed with last nights game... Kobe was off... Nash already down... Defense was terrible... Rebounding was marginal...

May be a LONG season boys...
