Defense in general is pretty terrible. But yeah, especially the secondary.

Ill take a tie over a loss any day, especially with Atlanta getting ready to lose.

It is better but it still should have been a win. Our biggest problem on defense right now is being out of position on occasion and having the slowest secondary in history. We have to give 7 yard cushions on 3rd and 3 or get killed deep. We have done such a miserable job replacing the guys we lost last season. Our top 4 guys from last season are all better than there replacements this season. Our safeties are a joke and Captain and Flourence were both better than Cason and White. The only guys we have with any sort of potential are Bene and Norman and they are raw.
I really don't understand why we didn't bring Florence back, he played pretty solid for us last season. Captain was decent playing the slot but for the most part he was trash, especially if he had to play outside, wasn't saddened at all when we let him go.

Captain wasn't great but he was better than what we have right now outside. He could play circles around White and Cason. I am curious if Flourence and Mikell retired for the reason implied by people about Gross. Both were solid last year and could have come back and been better than Harper and Cason.

A practice dummy would be better than Harper, I can't stand him. He just looked at Adam Jones yesterday on that kick return when he had and easy chance to run up and pop him, wished he'd go somewhere else.

I agree. At least that way teammates would know the practice dummy wouldn't move out of the way of the oncoming player.

We couldn't keep last years secondary so we could pay Greg Hardy 13 million to not play this season. I would also argue that last years secondary was awful as well and would get shredded with a banged up cj and no hardy in front of them. Also with or without an old Jordon gross this line would be god awful since its been terrible cams entire career. I'd say our o line is awful because we are paying outrageous amounts of money for mediocre rbs or if j stews case a good rb made of glass. This team is in salary cap hell and its only getting worse wince we have to pay cam and kuechly. J stew and deangelo are both going to have the same cap hit as shady McCoy in the next couple years. That is money that should be spent bringing in fa o linemen.

I don't know how anyone can think that Hurnie (sp?) isn't one of the more terrible GMs in recent history based off his salary cap management and trading a 2nd round pick for armanti Edwards.(ex college qbs have such a great track record switching positions in the NFL) who was drafted in the 3rd. /end rant

Last years secondary was faster than this one so they would have likely performed better. Both safeties could play the pass and run at least decent. Hurney wasn't great and they overpaid some guys to keep them here. The problem here seems to be we are losing guys and not coming close to replacing what we are losing. Also from the comments of Captain and from what I hear about Gross deciding to hang them up having a GM that players don't like or respect now is hurting us too.

We have cap management problems right now but we also appear to have a image issue in the front office as well. Players seem to not like Gettleman and that hurts since he is the face of recruiting FA. Our biggest problem is we went from a guy who was to nice and loyal to a guy people despise. We need to find a GM who knows what he is doing and has a personality that does not make people want to punch him in the throat 24/7.

99% of Gettleman's problems stem from how he handled the Steve Smith breakup. No one, not even Bill Belichick, can cut the greatest player in franchise history (both in on-field performance and off-field popularity) and survive unscathed.

The cap problems are mostly inherited unfortunately. It's going to be another year before we get out from under Hurney's awful deals to our aging RBs. If we didn't have Cam and Keuchly this team would be the Jaguars.

Yes the cap issue is mostly Hurney's fault. Gettleman did make Stewarts contract worse than it was by trying to make it tradable.

I agree you can't escape cutting a star player without an issue but he handled it about as poorly as you possibly can. Gettleman has next to no personal skills and that will crush him in this job. As a GM you need to be able to socialize in recruiting. He is a very hated person when people meet him and it appears he is making this a bad place to play. This will kill us for years if we don't remove him and fix the issue quickly. Once you get a reputation as a poor team it is hard to shed.

Just drafted a fantasy team- Durant at 3 and Al and Lance at 16 and 43 respectively. Lots of risks here.
