Player Predictions : Steven Adams

Post#1 » by Podirk » Fri Oct 3, 2014 6:48 pm

Steven Adams :

Adams locks up starting Center duties by ASB and averages 20+ min a game throughout the season. Either of these are really a prediction, and more of a guarantee as he averaged 18.4 mpg in the playoffs while showing improvement game to game.

Bold Prediction : Adams will average 8 and 8.

8 and 8 would be a nice year.

Hoping he can develop some post moves this year. Late in blowout games, Brooks should exclusively be drawing up options for Adams getting his confidence up.
    PG: Westbrook/Jackson/Smith
    SG: Roberson/Morrow/Lamb
    SF: Durant/Jones/Lamb
    PF: Ibaka/Collison/McGary
    C: Adams/Perkins

8/8 would be solid. Just looking it up, he averaged a little over 5/5 for the playoffs from game 6 vs. Memphis to game 5 vs. SAS in 22ish minutes per game, so it is possible for sure. Looking forward to seeing him this year.

Adams will be named the starter BEFORE the season starts. Brooks has set this up by calling for a positional battle during camp. Perkins getting hurt allowed Brooks to do this much easier. His FT shooting should be improved making 8/8 very realistic at around 25 minutes a night.

I first typed 10/10 for the BOLD Prediction but thought I was being too much of a homer. It was just one preseason game, but could Adams really average double digits? I want to say yes, but I don't know that I'm objective.

I don't think Adams gets the shots to average 10 a game. I think he could get 10 rebounds and 2 blocks a game if given 30 minutes no problem. The issue is shot volume. Last year he got 2.3 FG attempts playing 14.8 minutes a night. If he only gets 5 shots a night he's not going to reach 10. However, if they run 5 plays for him a game plus 2-3 dump offs along with 2 tip-ins or put backs a night then he'd have a chance. If he can get 9 FG attempts a night I like his chances to get 10 points a night. I also expect his FT% to improve from last year, which will help as well.

I could see him putting up 10/10/2 IF he can get 30 minutes a night. I'm just not sure he will get that much playing time. At closer to 22-25 minutes a night 8/8/1.5 is more realistic, again assuming his touches increase. I'm assuming at this point that Adams will be the starting center. There wasn't any reason for Brooks to publicly call for an open competition if he didn't want to make a change from Perkins. However, that doesn't mean that Adams will automatically get "starter minutes". Perkins and Adams combined for just under 35 minutes a game last year and there is even more reason to play small ball this year with a healthy Russ, the addition of Morrow and expected improvement of PJ3 and Lamb. It could be very hard for Adams to top 25 minutes a game along with Perkins getting 12, Ibaka 32 and Collison 12.

Westbrook has, from listening, found Adams well and at high efficiency spots. Will be interesting to see how that translates into reg season.

The numbers are not really relevant. He is on his way of becoming a complete player.. He was affecting the game a lot even with 3 points 3 rebounds a game. He could be the reason why OKC wins the title.

Being that Adams is young, Adams should focus on becoming a rim protector and also earning points close to the basket like a traditional center would. He is capable of averaging 10/8 which would be solid.

Pre-KD = 16pts, 9reb, 3blk
Post-KD = 12pts, 9reb, 3blk

I think KD will really affect Adam's points, but not his rebounds. This is Adam's break out year to show his value as a center.

I think similar but different :)

Similar in that KDs injury will affect Adams pts.
Differently that it will help Adams points.

1. Westbrook usage will go even higher, and a pick and roll with an able finisher will be used more now that KD is out for a while.
2. KD shots will be going elsewhere, and with those shots going to lower % shooters more rebounds/putbacks.
3. Players who could be getting in Adams minutes (Ibaka, Collison, etc) will have to play more min at PF replacing KDs mins at the 4.

HOWEVER...

the team could very easily implode and not score over 70 a game or something drastic like that.

Stayin in shape, and averaging 7.7 and 6.8, not bad.

Solid stats. It shows that Adams will improve as he matures.

Still don't under-stand why people keep saying WB doesn't feed SA the ball?

SA is developing this old Kareem/McGinnis sky hook, and it looks impressive. OKC needs to feed Adams in the post some more.

Seems like a low percentage shot to me. Adams is shooting ~35% on shots outside of three feet.

7.8 PTs
7.5 rbs

He's pretty consistent and still improving. His defense has really stepped up to(Duncan and Jefferaon in last few nights).
