I agree , but, guys like Millsap who are NOT household names, 1 year deals are dangerous. He blows his knee out his career could be over (at least guaranteed money wise).
I think its highly unlikely he would roll the dice on a 1 year deal and turn down a 3+ year deal somewhere else

Yeah, I don't imagine there will be many players taking one year deal over guaranteed money, even if the salary cap is going to rise. The NBA is a business first and no one is going to "take care" of you based on what you've done but what you can still do.
Also, the cap increases will be gradual over the next couple of years.

Alex Len, Archie Goodwin, Suns '15 1st round and the Lakers '15 (top 5 protected) pick. (that pick goes top 3 protected '16 and then '17 if not conveyed earlier)
for
Al Horford
What you say?
Not a bad offer but I don't think we'd do it. We're gunning for a top 3 seed this year at first at least. Horford also fits the Bud offense like a glove.

That certainly wouldn't be the final offer but it's good to know at least it's enough to get ATL's attention.

Anyway the Rockets could net Harford or Millsap with what we have? Just curious what you guys think. Thanks!

Celtics would probably give up Sullinger and expirings as a starting point...

want no part of Sullinger (and im from Boston as you can see).
I feel the Hawks are in a position to just see where Horford goes this season. He stays healthy and posts a 18/10/5 season then we sign him long term to an extension and hope we can convince Millsap to stay.
Hes very much like Rondo last season, his name is worth something but the trade value is low due to uncertainty about health, etc

I don't understand why you'd shop him- but I also don't understand the agenda of your front office... They seem happy to be a good treadmill team.
Sullinger was a top 5 pick before his back issues, which are now totally cleared up. I could see Boston giving up Avery Bradley, too...

top 5 in a WEAK draft maybe. I dont think he was ever THAT good. Year he came out he wasnt close to top 5 back issues or not
I love Sully, but hes someone I would be looking to get , we already have 1 guy with health issues

His back issues are taken care of, he had surgeries.. the bigger problem for him is his weight and conditioning- he couldn't play much more than 30 minutes last season without starting to huff and puff. Looks to be in better shape now. Very crafty offensive player, effective rebounder. Working on a 3 point shot, Celtics seem to be turning him into a smarter, more ground-bound Clarence Weatherspoon...

If I were the Hawks, I'd ask for Exum and Kanter from Utah...

What's the deal with Horford's injuries anyway? I've heard weight lifting as the cause, speculation about performance enhancing drugs... does he just need better physical training?

As a fellow celtic lover, I really hope he got his weight under control. i havent seen any games this year, but he has the potential to be REALLY good. He also has the potential to be Kris Humphries.
I really think Ainge trade bait is Jeff Green. Hes odd man out and I have heard Evan Turner may be gunning for his job.

Humphries is a nice role-player, I didn't think much of him until he came to Boston. He'll be good for the Wizards. Sullinger's in BETTER shape, but not good/great shape/ Still playing himself into condition in preseason, and may hit a wall in the winter- but looks like he can stay on the court without losing a step.
I know the Hawks were rumored to have interest in Jeff Green in the past.. The average opinion of our board is probably that Green/Sullinger is as far as Boston would go for Horford- some would pay more, some less, a lot hinging on Horford's health..

Re: Hawks "Shopped" Horford last season...........
I don't see anyway Sullinger and Green would be nearly enough to get Horford. I'm not a Green fan because even though the 17 ppg looks pretty on the surface, his percentages last year were horrible. Then add in his $9 salary and you can find player at the same level for cheaper. I feel Sullinger is in the same boat as his fg% was also very bad, something you do not want to see from a big. By comparison, Horford's fg% has always been at or above .499.
I feel conversations would need to start with Smart.
There is a huge disconnect between the value that Boston fans feel Green has the value the rest of the league fans feel Green has. Boston fans seem the feel he is on the verge of stardom. The rest of the league sees a guy who averaged 17 ppg on a weakened Boston team and in doing so tanked his fg%. For him there is a huge tradeoff. He can score you around 15 ppg as a starter on a team with other options (aka Teague, Millsap, Korver), however in doing so you are looking at a sub .450 fg% with a 3p% hovering around .330 (some years are better, some are worse)

If you guys still had Asik and Chandler Parsons on your roster, then yes, Houston would have the potential to start serious trade talks.

This would be the type of deal I imagine Hawks would aim for in exchange for our best player. Young prospects or draft picks, similar to what other top players have garnered in trade the last 6+ years (KG, CPIII, Melo, Love). I'd love a package of these two for Horford ( capable starting Center and a possible young superstar). But don't know if UTAH would do it since Derrick Favors is essentially a young Horford type player and combining those two makes them a bottom playoff team in the West at best.
