The Cavaliers are 4-0 in the preseason

Post#1 » by kenneth9265 » Thu Oct 16, 2014 2:44 am

Well, the Cavaliers have a perfect record in the preseason so far with a win over the bucks 98-93. Lebron scored 26 points (10 in the 3rd quarter.) and sat out before the end of the 3rd quarter and all of the 4th quarter. Love had a bad shooting night shooting 1-6 fg and 0-3 for 3pts range and did not play in the 2nd half...

^ this isn't one of the primary forums for the Cavaliers. There are others with the traffic you'd expect.

As for 4-0 that's pretty meaningless, but there are some things to be learned from these games.
1) This team can out shoot anybody.
2) Perimeter defense is going to be a problem.
3) Delly got better.
4) Waiters doesn't get it yet.
5) Kirk is going to make this team.
6) LeBron is still playing LeBron ball too often.

Also, yes, 4-0 doesn't mean anything at all. The Cavs have looked pretty solid thus far, but they have a lot of room for growth, especially on the defensive end. LeBron sure looked in the groove in the last contest. Dion and Kevin both look great. Let's hope that carries over to the regular season.

I'd like to see them try to get Harris some more open looks on the perimeter. Unfortunately, many of the players he's on the floor with are competing for a roster spot against him.

I like it for a couple reasons

1. Blatt - it's important for him to get a feel for the NBA game, managing timeouts, subs, etc. Also it's impressive how he has been able to coach wins out of our scrubs late in 4th quarters, I don't think LBJ/Love/Kyrie have played a 4th quarter yet.

2. Chemistry/roles - important for Love, Lebron, Kyrie to figure out where their shots are coming from, etc. Dion also.

3. Build winning habits. Why mess around, if you play the games why not win?

That said I think we drop this game to Dallas. They have a B2B with Indy and they are sitting all of their starters in the 2nd game, so will trot out their starters against us. Also think Love will sit in this one.

4. Waiters looked good in the first two games. Played a lot more on ball in the third and couldn't get his jumper to fall.

6. LeBron looked overly passive in the first two games just testing out how many looks he could get for people and if he's one on one in the post against a 6'5 210 guard I want him to get really close and shoot. If teams play him one on one down there he will feast.

Not anymore but the last loss didn't mean any more than the previous 4 wins. Lets get to the real season and see how these guys play together.

Just wanted to chime in that I've been trying to catch your Cavaliers preseason games as much as I have been able to. Obviously the preseason isn't as interesting as the regular season, but I'm a 76ers fan so there's not too much exciting to watch with my squad.

I watched most of the Cavs-Mavs game last night and it's pretty amazing how this Cleveland roster has been overhauled from top to bottom. Not even just the additions of LeBron and Kevin Love, but I can see this roster is pretty competitive collectively. A ton of shooters (Irving, Love, Miller, Jones) and I think Blatt can figure it out defensively. I was very impressed with Tristan Thompson and think he will have a strong season, although he will obviously be competing for PT with Varejao and Love. I think Waiters is a question mark, but it's too early to etch anything in stone.

I will never root for another team (even when mine is tanking) but I will surely tune into every Cavs game that's nationally televised this season.

Waiters is being over-scrutinized. It's the pre-season and the Cavs are trying to iron the wrinkles right now. He's going to get a lot of opportunities as it is, but there is zero chance he leads the team in shot attempts this year.

LeBron will be more assertive once the games matter. Love and Kyrie as well. Waiters will get open looks and opportunities to make plays and he will likely play a little point guard while Kyrie is on the bench. It's not as if Waiters has looked bad this preseason. He's had moments where he's struggled, but the overall product thus far has been very good.

Part of the attempts issue is the 'bigger 3' aren't playing as much and later into the games Dion is the man out there. For the portions of games I've watched it looks like Dion is taking good shots too. If they don't want him taking open mid range jumpers then the need to communicate that.

The real concern was Monta Ellis' ability to get anything he wanted anytime he wanted. Perimeter defense will end the Cavaliers' season.
