Marvin needs time to settle.

Some people really didn't like the McBob trade to begin with either.

Over the course of a season, it is inevitable that he will have both his good and bad moments, only time will tell what he actually brings to the table in the heat of battle.

Preseason is too early to write him off imo.

McDermott isn't close to as long as Williams is. I would guess after years in the NBA and coming in weighing more that Williams is still heavier. Likely Williams is stronger too, although after McBuckets being in the NBA a couple years I see that shifting the other way. Doug may be able to play at PF in a few years but it will take some time and he will be very limited defensively due to lack of length.

Marvin's standing reach is 9'0
Doug's standing reach is 8'7

That 5 inches of difference is massive when it comes to altering shots. There should be no doubt in anyone's mind when it comes to who has the better ability to defend the post.

Length doesn't mean jack if you don't have good awareness and Williams is a non-factor at best on defense. Length is why Williams was a no. 2 overall pick and we see how that's worked out. McDermott has been playing in the post most of his career, including for the national team. He'd be way ahead of Williams in the McBob role of telling people where to be on defense.

Kemba could probably tell the PF better than McDermott where to be but that doesn't mean he could defend the position. Williams has been disappointing for where he was picked but has been a decent pro and has his defense talked well about by our defensive minded head coach. I will take his thought over some random people who just want to hate on the new guy. Anyone who thinks McDermott is going to be able to hold his own in the post this season on defense is not watching the game. He was not a great post defender in college against smaller opponents and will get eaten alive there in the NBA. Your last point makes him a good coach not a good player. Williams and McBob would both kill McDermott on the defensive end. Both are stronger and longer and better suited for the post than Doug.

As long as Marv can make 40% of his open 3s I guess I can slow down on calling him Messy. He still can't do much with the ball if he put it on the floor but turn it over or get stuck and he's still far from worth the contract we gave him but if he can shoot 40% on his few 3 point attempts then he reached his team goal. His minutes should be limited around 20-25. I wanna see some MKG at PF or Vonleh in games.

I would be happy if anyone on our roster could make 40% of their open 3's. I think just about any player in the league would be happy with that.

Anything at 37% or above I will accept. All of his shots will be open. That's how Tolliver and CDR shot at or above 40%. Even Mcbob shot a decent clip being wide open. It'll be there.

And we let Tolliver and CDR go, who signed for $3.9M this season combined, and each shot 40% plus from deep for the vast majority of the year.

Marvin Williams, on the flip side, has shot above 36% from three ONCE in his entire career, yet we pay him $7M. He's going to have to do a lot to impress me.

Now I said the same about McBob, Tolliver, and CDR before we got them, so hopefully Marvin is next in line.

Which doesn't mean a thing if he shoots like 30% everywhere else.

It's a reference to the mediocre rapper as well as Marv's mediocre game. I always considered Marv's game messy as a SF because if he ever has to take more than two dribbles it get messy. That was in his Atlanta days.

Lol at Cliff talking about slow starts and needless fouls being the reason why we were 3-5 in the preseason but he's the one that anointed Messy Marv our starting PF before training camp even started only to see Marv in early foul trouble and score only 2 points in like every 1st half.

Remember when the McRoberts trade happened and I crapped on the notion that he could be a decent player?

As long as this bum stay ready to shoot because he'll be wide open since no NBA defense would logically consider him a offensive threat I guess I can get behind the overpaid signing. He came thru for us tonight in a much needed win.
