Some guys to pay attention today:
Leonard Williams/DT
Michael Bennett/DT
Randy Gregory/DE (hopefully we're not bad enough to get him)
Shilique Calhoun/DE
Derron Smith/S (This is my guy in the first round. He had 18 tackles and an interception in the Bowl game last year against USC)
Eric Kendricks/LB
Leonard Williams/DT

Randy Gregory/DE (hopefully we're not bad enough to get him)
Shilique Calhoun/DE
Derron Smith/S (This is my guy in the first round. He had 18 tackles and an interception in the Bowl game last year against USC)
Eric Kendricks/LB

Re: College Prospects 2014/15
I don't think he's eligible for this year's draft but a guy that can be a top defender in the NFL is the DE, Bosa, from Ohio St. He'll most likely going to be a top 5 pick but if he drops he's definitely the guy to get.

Re: College Prospects 2014/15
I'm really liking the depth of this draft for us. There are a lot of guys who can play multiple positions at high levels. My early mock would be something like this.....
RD 1: Eric Kendricks (ILB?OLB): Can play any LB position right away at a high level. Would instantly take Shea's spot. He's quick, physical, can play both the run and pass and is a very good tackler which is something we very much need
RD 2: Derron Smith (FS). Can also play SS. Along with Veeren, we could have one of the most physical Safety combos in the NFL. Like Kendricks, he's a great tackles and doesn't allow the big plays.
RD 3: COREY ROBINSON (LT). He is a massive man coming in at 6-7, 348 LBS. He's played against some of the best defenses in the SEC and has done well. I never really liked the signing of Bushrod, to me he was our worse lineman and he's more of a run blocker than a pass blocker, which is something that you usually don't want from a LT (i think he allowed the most sacks). Robinson has the size right away to play in the NFL, but his quickness is questionable. Playing behind bushrod for a little should be good for him.
RD 4: Chucky Hunter (DT). Ratliff and Pea could both be gone after this season and our two picks this year are still question marks. Hunter is a big fella weight 305 Lbs. This is going to be his third year as a starter so he has experience and he led his dline in tackles last year.
RD 5: Jake McGee (TE). McGee would add a lot more size for us coming in at 6-5 255 along with the rest of our huge receivers. He has good speed and athleticism for his size. He played for Virginia for his first three years but transferred to Florida for his last year. He's already a graduate so he's a smart one. He split out a lot in Virginia which could benefit him a lot more at Florida. His stock can rise.
RD 6:Justin Coleman (CB). Tillman will most likely be gone after this season and Jennings isn't that young himself. Fuller will most likely be a starter next season which leaves our nickle comer vacant. Coleman has Cortland Finnegan competitiveness and aggressiveness but less a-holeish. He can't catch though.
RD 7: A.J Tarpley (ILB/OLB). Williams will be gone most likely with Bostic starting leaving only Greene and some no names as our back-ups (im assuming Kendricks, Briggs, and Bostic all start) Tarpley has been the leader of a great Stanford defense for the past few years. He can play all LB positions and is very smart and coach-able. If we need him for significant time during games he won't lose them for us. Very good against the run and always shows up in huge games.

McGee was carted off the field today.idk how serious the injury is but it can never be good when that happens. Hopefully he can come back but it seems like he'll go undrafted unless he decides to come back next year

Re: College Prospects 2014/15
Trae Waynes could be an option since Tillman is mostly retired and Jennings is old. He could be considered the best CB coming out so we'd have to get him with a first.

Re: College Prospects 2014/15
Hopefully we don't pick early enough to get Waynes. We need to add talent at LB. Williams will be gone and Briggs might be too since he has definitely lost a step. Having Bostic and McClellin as the top two LBs doesn't look very good right now. McKinney, Perryman and Kendricks would all all be great options. We need someone to come in and take that leadership role immediately. Briggs isn't a very good on field leader as far as directing traffic from what I've seen.

Re: College Prospects 2014/15
Right now I'm leaning toward drafting Perryman in the first round and plug him in as the day one starter at MLB. He can play the other positions too since he's so athletic.
Kendricks would have to be an OLB and that would only work if Bostic took hold of the starting MLB spot this year.

I'd be shocked if Perryman isn't a top 15 pick. MLB with good size, 4.5 speed, and a tackling machine with flawless technique. .... his combine will cement his status.heir_jordan22 wrote:Right now I'm leaning toward drafting Perryman in the first round and plug him in as the day one starter at MLB. You're probably right but he's my top option if on the board when we pick. I wouldn't have any problem if we were left with Kendricks or McKinney.

Re: College Prospects 2014/15
I think there is a big drop off in talent at LB after those three guys. Safety looks really deep to me. I think there are at least six safeties capable of starting from day 1 so there is a good chance we could get one in the second round. Collins Mills Drummond Smith Prewitt Carter are guys I can think of right off the bat that I would like if they were available in the second round, even if we re-sign Conte

Re: College Prospects 2014/15
What should we take in round 1?
If Waynes or Ekpre-Olomu are there, they're best player available. Collins or Prewitt at safety would fill a bigger need, as would Kendricks or Perryman at LB.

Waynes/Olomu/Williams
Benardrick McKinney/Shaq Thompson/AJ Johnson/Ramik Wilson
Stephon Diggs/Tyler Lockett/Ben Boyak/CliveWalford/top WR and returner or TE in rounds three and four
And go hard for Stevie Brown in free agency. Covers all our top needs.

Re: College Prospects 2014/15
Ran into a Bears scout at the Michigan/Penn State game. He was watching Jake Ryan hard and Jake had a fantastic game. He'd be a good fit at SAM.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Thanks for the info. Sounds like we'll address LB by the end of day two in the draft.

Re: College Prospects 2014/15
I like OLB Shaq Thompson.
Things to know about Shaq:
-He was the #1 rated saftey in the country coming out of high school.
-He is a HITTER!
-There is a connection. Like Urlacher, Thompson's natural position was Saftey until he grew out of it. Like Briggs, Thompson is a Sacramento area high school legend. Thompson, like Briggs, showed athleticism playing both DB and RB.
-He ran a 4.4 coming out of high school
-He has FOUR defensive touchdowns on the year, and ONE touchdown as a RB.
-He is 6'2 230lbs

Shaq is my favorite LB right now as well. Takeaway machine and freak athlete like Urlacher. If he continues to put on weight we can plug him in at MLB.

If we're going to bring in a bunch of young LBs I think I want to resign Briggs to help mold them.

That is what has been happening with McClellan, Bostic, and Greene for now two seasons.patryk7754 wrote:If we're going to bring in a bunch of young LBs I think I want to resign Briggs to help mold them.
