Jason Smith looked like garbage out there, truth be told.

But I'll give him a pass because he's barely played this preseason.

Melo - "I'm gonna score less in the triangle'

Takes 22 shots in next preseason game.

I'm good with this. Although if it were up to me I'm playing Wear behind Melo and ahead of Early. He looks more like an NBA player for now.

My thoughts on game......

- Shump was being Shump tonight ---- missing shots and getting toasted on D
- Melo was being Melo ---- 7-22 but he got 28 points
- Stat --- meh - that pick and roll defense
- Timmy 0 rebounds
- Pablo --- what was his +/-?
- JR - oy vey --- the shot selection of helen keller and thats being unkind to Ms. Keller
- Calderon injured -- welcome to NY Knicks
- Smith --- I guess he is no longer the second coming of a mix of Dave Cowens & Larry Bird
- Larkin - meh
- Wear -- looked serviceable
- Acy -- at least he gave effort but jump-shot is broke and he's gambling too much

Did I miss anyone?

Amare played well on the offensive end. He didn't provide alot of protection around the rim but that's expected of him at this point. He's perfect coming off the bench as the backup C. Cole Aldrich is not very good. 4th team in like 5 years yet he gets lauded on this board like the 2nd coming of bill walton

I can see Wear ahead of CEarly for this year. It's just that I also want to give him some minutes to develop some so next year he can start taking steps towards being a contributor for next year.

JSmith and Dalembert provide our best defensive frontcourt IMO. Lord knows we need it.

Bit worried that Fisher is going to repeat the same mistakes right off the bat.

Not playing Cole, thinking we have to have JR and Amar'e in the lineup for offense.

This is not how to play it. Tighten the rotation to hardworkers who play unselfishly. Screw offense when it comes at the deep expense of always having to overcome stupidity and laziness and poor fundamentals every game. That's a battle we can't win.

Some troubling signs. The D is going to suck unless either Dally or Cole are always on the court.

Cant be tired when they havent played in over 4 days and no travel since they were at home.

Not sure what Timmy is ready for...he gives up way more than he'll ever score. Totally agree on JR.

It's funny reading all the panicky posts over a pre-season loss. I liked what I saw offensively, especially the ball movement. Still time to work out all the kinks before the season starts. Defensively they obviously have some work to do. Melo looks ready to go, don't care that he shot 7-22, he still looks the most comfortable out there out of everyone and I think that's a very good thing. Glad Priggy Smalls played and he's rocking a (not very visible) goatee

Doesn't matter if they haven't played a real game in 4 days. The team still practices and scrimmages almost every day. not surprised if they were gassed by the 4th

I still don't know what people see in Cole. The guy comes in and throws his body around then goes back to bench. Yes he has some stretches where he rebounds the ball well and defends but he's still slower than molasses and has no offensive repertoire to speak of. Can he be effective for 5 min stretches? Possibly but it sounds like people want to give him 20 minutes a game.

They were gassed in the first giving up over 30 points while trying to score 30 themselves.

Cole usually plays well in the minutes he gets whether a couple or a few more, thats exactly why people want to see him play more, to see what he does with more minutes.

I don't think he'll be that effective with more minutes. His flaws will be displayed more. No offense and slow footed.
The 5 minutes he gets he could just bang around and focus on playing defense and rebounding.

I definitely do. The Knicks also were a much better team before Melo got here. They actually moved the ball and ran the P n R very nicely. Once Melo got here everything went up in flames.

Not to say Melo isn't great, because he is, but our team was absolutely gutted. If it wasn't for Billups, we might've missed the playoffs LOL

Forgetting when Amare sat a lot towards the end of that 10-11 season and we went on a 7 game win streak to cement our playoff berth behind Melo lighting it up.

Amare had a great 1st yr. Even after Melo came he averaged 22 & 8 that year. Since then he's been one of the worst contracts in the NBA. It's not Amare's fault we're horrible. But he has not come close to earning that contract.

Nah I haven't forgotten. Clearly, it was STAT's team to begin the season and Melo's to finish it. Amare was half dead by the end of the year, and he hasn't been the same since. I'm not sure if it's all of his injuries finally catching up to him or D'Antoni running him into the ground, or a combination of both.

Melo is one helluva player. I think he's probably the best scorer in the league aside from KD. He is the guy who has to lead us for the foreseeable future and I hope he's up to the task.

And yes, I agree, Amare's contact is absolutely terrible. But it was a necessary albatross. I'm not sure that Melo would've forced his way to NY if STAT didn't come here first. Maybe he would've, but I have my doubts.

Either way, it's sad that we've never gotten to see Melo & STAT together at their absolute best. Oh what could've been. Reminds me far too much of Patrick Ewing & Bernard King together :( - I still don't know why the Knicks gave up on King and let him walk to Washington. Even after his injuries, he had 4 good years for the Bullets

It really all started when Walsh opted into Billups contract following that season. All they had to do was opt out, go sign Chandler, then possibly try to resign Billups at a lower rate at worst. We could of kept that Amnesty in the back pocket till last year or this year and made some moves. Anyway what's done is done.
