I can't imagine what held him up for an entire week. That seems like bureaucratic inefficiency at its worst.

The Suns are expected to exercise 2015-16 team options for Len ($3.81 million), Plumlee ($2.11 million) and Archie Goodwin ($1.17 million) in the coming days. No decision is required until Oct.31, the day of the second regular-season game, but they likely will not wait.

The CBA absolutely sucks. Rookies are ridiculously underpaid.

I'm not saying Len deserves more based on his play but a 5th overall pick should be making more than $4M/season imo.

should he? not when such a high percentage of first-round picks don't pan out at all. 4M is a lot to be paid just to be tall (so far).

I just saw that Detroit waved Hasheem Thabeet. I wouldn't mind bringing him in as an insurance policy/ 3rd string big. He wouldn't need to provide any offense, just focus on blocking shots and rebounding. I would rather have him on the roster over a 33 year old Earl Barron or a 30 year old Shavlik Randolph. In my eyes, he will never live up to getting taken #2 in the draft, but he still has a chance to develop into good defensive big.

I love that within 3 posts we have "rookies are underpaid!" next to "Hasheem Thabeet just got waived!"

I don't really see much downside to taking Thabeet over Randolph. He is younger and with his height and athleticism alone he could help us when Plumlee is slumping. Hornacek does seem to love Randolph's intangibles though.

No they aren't. Len basically got an NBA MLE deal after being a mediocre center in the ACC. Right now Sacramento is paying Derrick Williams 6.3 million to be their backup backup backup forward, I could go on and on. More guys flop on their face than succeed. The successes are briefly underpaid but are rewarded with fat deals, the failures get more money than 99% of people get in their lifetimes to be a crappy NBA player for a few years, jet setting around the country and getting laid.

Discounting sports tell me another profession where an unproven college drop-out can come in and make more money than someone with 5-10 years of work experience in the same field.

This is why the NBA wants players to stay in college more years. These young 18/19/20 year old rookies dilute the level of play. Can't shoot, can't dribble, can't defend but they have potential so pay them big bucks to maybe turn into a decent player.

Whine that Len doesn't do anything, complain that he's underpaid.

Nope. The NBA draft is a crapshoot. They will have plenty opportunities to be overpaid if they actually turn out to be good.

Although, I must say it would be very interesting for rookies to come out of college/international as UFA, and watch perpetual bottom teams like Minnesota offer near max contracts based purely on potential lol.

Would rather put a bid on Kyrylo Frensenko than Thabeet. Really big (maybe over weight), but good feet and quick for his size and he hustles. He abused Plumlee in the Summerleague. He was a victim of the numbers game in Minny. They have no trade on the table for Pek, Dieng is thier C. of the future, and they like Turiaf.

I don't agree with this at all. $4m close to mid-level money now and no graduate goes into a new job making as much as the middle manager.
