17 teams voted for it, so unlikely it was just one upset owner

You are probably right.

I think they could probably get enough votes if they agreed to wait a few years to implement it. This proposal was too vindictive and petty to get through though.

Season would have been less fun if it passed.

and that's why there has to be a rule change

No, it doesn't at all. Last year got me more interested in the NBA than I've been in years. You're entitled to your own opinion about the right or wrong (both moral and otherwise) way to build a team. I simply don't care what you think.

It was also stupid. A reform that actually addressed the larger issues would probably have garnered more support.

Well color me pleasantly surprised. The reason I'm glad it got shut down are obvious- it was a rash, reactionary, unfair proposal with many potential unintended circumstances. The Sixers are fine either way, but the league as a whole benefits from taking a step back. Hope they take their time and come back with reform that actually improves on the status quo.

Biggest win of the season!!!! Someone queue up the sixers song!
The feedback I've received from our fans is they understand we are trying to build something great. Good decisions come from having a broad set of options and making tough calls. We will do it unblinkingly. We have to be willing to take smart risks-Hinkie

Everyone is cheering against you guys, but as a Raptors fan I'm glad this didn't pass. It'd be BS to change the rules on you guys right before the season just because you guys tanked ONE year after years of treadmilling.

Hope Embiid and Noel turn out to be dominant for you guys. I love seeing an ownership group stick with a plan and stand by their front office.

Most of the teams that voted for it are just trying to take advantage of the opportunity anyway. This proposal would've fixed nothing long term. You want to end tanking? Let the bad teams get good players so they become good teams and stop tanking!!

#NBA lottery odds: Team with worst record has 100 percent shot at being in top 4. Under proposal, would've only been 44. #Sixers #76ers

Thank you!

That's the point. Taking my Sixers hat off for a second, I just think that it is more important for the league to ensure a path to success for the worst teams than it is to discourage tanking. No one will want to tank forever because it is bad business, but the only way that a team like the Raptors will get the first superstar on the roster, is to draft him.

After you have the first superstar you might have a fighting chance of getting a second one through free agency or trade, but you aren't going to trade for or sign your first superstar.

Even signing/trading for a superstar doesnt always pan out well. Just look at ny and melo... Still not against the new rule, just if they change it for this draft, its a slap in the face of the sixers.

i'm pleasantly surprised by the outcome today, but not totally stunned.

i had a feeling more teams were against this then the media initially let on. it just didn't make sense that so many owners would be so wrong about this.

45.9%, actually (12% at 1, 11.7% at 2, 11.3% at 3, 10.9% at 4).

It was too extreme.

Move the odds from 25 20 15 ... to 20, 17.5, 15, and you have 7.5% chance of the 1st pick (alone) you can redistribute to make it slightly flatter.

Blowing it up entirely (which this basically was) was a massive over reaction.

Its a shame, because when the jump up in odds between 3 and 1 is too big as is imo.
