I saw this game. He first shot or 2nd shot was an open jumper from the foul line, he had that hitch again and air balled. I was like, here we go again, but it was smooth sailing from there on. I think he still isn't completely adjusted into this new mechanic (but it is normal to experience this or go back to old habits that you have been using since he played ball), but I like the fact that in this game, he was chalking them up and not afraid to take those mid range Js.
MKG needs to play 30 mpg, the motor, the defense, this guy is a superstar if he can get that mid-range game going

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread II
Anyone else notice MKG's fantasy blurb on ESPN?
"Entering the NBA, the expectation was that MKG's offensive game would be a long-term project but that the No. 2 overall pick's defense would carry him early on. After two seasons, he has underwhelmed in all facets of the game, leaving him a big zero in fantasy circles. Lance Stephenson will step into the defensive-stopper role MKG was supposed to handle, leaving the 21-year-old Kidd-Gilchrist an afterthought as a reserve who still is learning the NBA ropes." --Tom Carpenter
Good Lord.

I don't really blame them or surprised. The guy/s who write these player overviews rushed it and don't do much research or at the very best just do minor research like offseason moves (ex. Lance affecting MKG). Let's face it, Hornets is a low market team and don't get attention from the National media, so unless you are living in Charlotte, or follow the local news blurbs in Charlotte, you will not be aware that MKG has made an improvement in his game. And if they just judge it by say the Lance acquisition and MKG's horrible numbers in the box score a year ago, I'd probably write the same thing.
That's good for people who do their homework, because I see big things for MKG. with his work ethic, that renewed confidence, and the energy, this guy will breakout.

Fantasy wise he is a weak player right now. His defense is stellar and this guy has no reason to know that because that does not show up in fantasy points. The guys who write fantasy reviews normally try to talk like they know about the real game but in reality are just basing everything solely on fantasy points. He has no clue what MKG is capable of and is just trying to talk like he knows how basketball is played outside the box score.

Box score watchers
MKG has been our best player this preseason, but why would we expect someone from ESPN to know that?

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread II
I get why fantasy "gurus" would be down on him, but:
"His defense was supposed to carry him...but he has underwhelmed in ALL facets."
"Lance Stephenson will step into the defensive stopper role MKG was SUPPOSED to handle."
Anyone who gets paid for this stuff should at least have a passing knowledge IMO. Underwhelming as a DEFENDER? Come on now...

I think MKG takes a big step this year. I just get that feeling that he goes from role-player to legitimate starter this year.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread II
Expect every "fantasy guru" to call Harrison Barnes an infinitely better player than MKG based on stats.
For the record, I did pick Barnes ahead of MKG, simply because of numbers- MKG isn't a fantasy threat. Even for a defender of his caliber, his steals and blocks are very underwhelming.

I would never consider drafting MKG to a fantasy team.
I also would never consider trading him - MKG love dome strong.

It wasn't the fact that it was a fantasy report as much all the inaccurate information in it, fantasy or not.

The fantasy that Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is thus far anything but a major disappointment at pick 2. He still is. Does he have potential? Of course. Will he improve? Maybe. How much? I don't know. You don't know. Nobody knows.
What you me and everybody knows up to this point is there are 2 versions of MKG, the player MKG can become (and the object of the love dome) and the realtime version other fans around the league don't seem too impressed with.
Like when's the last time a fan of another team came over here and asked for MKG in a trade? It hasn't happened in my time here, almost 2 years now.
We are like the Magic fans gloating about getting a top 10 pick for Afflalo only to end up shellshocked by a deal that brought them Fournier.
There is always going to be a gap between hometown perception and real value.
And you can put that on the record.

"We are like the Magic fans gloating about getting a top 10 pick for Afflalo only to end up shellshocked by a deal that brought them Fournier." Um...who on here is bragging about what MKG's value should be to other teams? I would say it's the opposite situation. We brag because we know everyone else thinks he's awful, not because we genuinely think other folks might agree with us on his value.
The reality is that the kid was a borderline elite defender in the NBA before the age of 20. That is the foundation of the love dome.

We can pat ourselves on the back all day long for selecting a defensive specialist at pick 2 but that doesn't make it a very strong foundation and the rest of the dome insulates MKG from a serious critique of his offense.

We all know Andre Drummond should've been the pick, but it's spilled milk now. You don't drink spilled milk, you clean it up, and pour another glass. I liked the MKG pick even though I was on record for wanting Drummond, because I knew Cho wasn't going to draft another raw big man one year after drafting Biyombo. I know you might want to bring up Bradley Beal, but I'd still take MKG over Beal in hindsight for what this team needed at the time. MKG has helped us (along with Clifford's tutelage) become a top tier defensive team, and I'm content with that right now as his jump shot improves to make him a offensive threat on top of it

As a full time resident of the dome, even I would say he was one of the most offensively limited players in the league last year, at least within the offensive scheme we ran. No one on here has been hesitant to critique his offense.
I'm at the point where I say WGAF where he was drafted, let's talk about his actual value to our current team instead of what hypothetical value we could have gotten two years ago.
