Um...who on here is bragging about what MKG's value should be to other teams? I would say it's the opposite situation. We brag because we know everyone else thinks he's awful, not because we genuinely think other folks might agree with us on his value.
The reality is that the kid was a borderline elite defender in the NBA before the age of 20. That is the foundation of the love dome.
We can pat ourselves on the back all day long for selecting a defensive specialist at pick 2 but that doesn't make it a very strong foundation and the rest of the dome insulates MKG from a serious critique of his offense.
We all know Andre Drummond should've been the pick, but it's spilled milk now. You don't drink spilled milk, you clean it up, and pour another glass. I liked the MKG pick even though I was on record for wanting Drummond, because I knew Cho wasn't going to draft another raw big man one year after drafting Biyombo. I know you might want to bring up Bradley Beal, but I'd still take MKG over Beal in hindsight for what this team needed at the time. MKG has helped us (along with Clifford's tutelage) become a top tier defensive team, and I'm content with that right now as his jump shot improves to make him a offensive threat on top of it
It was a terrible use of financial resources. To put it in perspective - to account for scoring weakness and shooting weakness, a loss of Beal culminated in an offering of 16 million per for Gordon Hayward followed by a last minute rescue by Lance when he was set to sign with Dallas for 10 million contingent on the Parsons fiasco. The team would have been absolutely **** if Chandler had stayed in Houston. Proof the team was NOT well insulated from inability to improve last year's biggest weakness.
