Jesus...it's crazy how ESPN is shoving this narrative down people's throats.
They're chicken littles calling the sky is falling hoping that they'll eventually be right. But if we'll recall, they've been doing this to Kobe on and off for about a decade now.
Really looking forward to him shutting them the **** up.

What's funny is they say Kobe's not worth that contract, but I guarantee their Kobe coverage alone generates that much money for BSPN.

Re: Jeannie Buss Interview with Colin Cowherd 10/23/14
There's not too much in the interview, in that Jeannie defers most personnel questions since she's in charge of operations and respects Jim's and Mitch's positions. But one interesting thing was her talking about approving of the Kobe signing but not being in the room or in the negotiations- I am pretty sure I had read previously that Jeannie had gone over Jim and basically offered Kobe that big contract himself.

Jesus, she was on Mike and Mike, First Take, Colin Cowherd's show and right now she's on Olbermann's show. She's putting in work.

Re: Jeannie Buss Interview with Colin Cowherd 10/23/14
Wow, her view on Dwight Howard leaving because the team was built more for Nash after the MDA hiring than for him is interesting. Obviously she's trying to walk back her previous statement that said show me a free agent that doesn't want to play in LA because of Kobe and I'll show you a loser, so she wanted to not appear to attack Dwight too much...but man, that's interesting--also important to note:
She wanted Phil to coach, but at the time her father was still alive and didn't have the final say yet.
Which is great and all, but in the Cowherd interview she basically says point blank she doesn't know anything about basketball ha ha--that's pretty alarming, though I think she's humbling herself to prop up Jim.
Either way, ESPN loves this stupid Shakespearean drama they're trying to push.

The more I hear her speak, the more I'm glad Jim is doing the basketball stuff. That woman has no filter. The old man's kids are each special in their own way.

Re: Jeannie Buss Interview with Colin Cowherd 10/23/14
Jeanie is the mom of the Lakers...the problem is Mitch is the father, but he's not very vocal, nor does he have a ton of gravitas...people respect him, even Dwight supposedly did, but he's not the PR master we need.
I'm not sure how long the team can go on PR wise, but I have no doubt they can build the right team eventually. According to ESPN it's a travesty if we aren't contenders ever single year? How could any team actually be held to that standard? It's totally absurd.
We're rebuilding not after the PJ run, but actually the Dwight/Nash/Pau/Kobe run. Give it some time. ESPN makes me dumber just trying to understand their 8 year old kid logic.

I still kind of wish she would not go around on a media tour and call people losers. It all adds credence to the story that Kobe somehow has the franchise on hostage.
If they instead simply released a press release saying they stand by their athlete, condemn the report and that no one associated with the Lakers has ever spoke to ESPN or Abbott regarding the story, that would have sufficed in general and been a dignified end to the story.

Just listened to it. Thought it was an excellent interview and very informative.

Re: Jeannie Buss Interview with Colin Cowherd 10/23/14
The other part to the MDA hiring that gets glossed over is this....there was talk that Dr.Buss wanted to see his team play "ShowTime" one last time. This is the reason I think they went with Mike, Jim was trying to fulfill his dying fathers wish.
That was a tough patch for the franchise, things weren't being thought out clearly.

Re: Jeannie Buss Interview with Colin Cowherd 10/23/14
growing pains
jeanie, though president of the lakers and has final say on basketball matters, is primarily going to be concerned with business matters and defers to basketball operations front
it's an interesting dynamic they've got, but jeanie this is year 1 of the 3 year plan is pretty dead on
from 2004 to 2008 was essentially our last retool and 3 years is a (relatively speaking) ambitious target
however, given that there is massive capspace in 2015 and moreso in 2016, i'd say our rebuild most definitely hinges on free agency those years, less-so from the draft

Re: Jeannie Buss Interview with Colin Cowherd 10/23/14
There is clearly a "blood in the water" vibe about the Lakers right now like I've never seen...
Jeanie needs to get out there like she is to set expectations and put a corral around it. Not sure she's getting it done though... I think the only thing that is going to shut people up is winning and Kobe being a big part of those wins...
Mitch needs to pull off something special at or before the deadline this season, or Jeanie's going to find herself in continued hot water along with her brother.
Something I thought about too... Mitch is a great GM, but he has the personality of yesterday's whitefish...
That's fine, but then you have Jim, who's probably the last person you want in the public eye, and Jeanie, who, while extremely likeable and easy on the eyes, caries no gravitas...
So even if the Lakers were incredibly solid, it would still feel a little like a rudderless ship.
If we aren't winning soon, she's going to have to make some statement moves to send a message that the buck stops with her, and the team is in capable hands. I don't think she has 3 years to see what happens...
If we're no closer to contention after this off season, with all the money we'll have to spend, either Mitch or Jimmy has to go... Pretty sure if it comes to that, Mitch will announce his retirement, and they'll beg Phil to come back.
Just a gut feeling, but it seems frighteningly logical to me too...

These were both 2 cases Henry Abbot cited in his article. Man thats why I never click or read any of this guys stuff. ESPN and guys like that are more focused on hit pieces that generate clicks and views over integrity and professional journalism. "Sources" is such a hack way to say "I heard from SOMEONE" that will support my view on an article. Stop supporting clowns like Abbot and Cowherd and you won't have to worry about junk like this.

This is exactly what i thought too. Phil is the only person i could think of that would fit right in there. Which also means no more Lakers-East version (Knicks) finally.
