Pick up Budinger and Barea for Steve Nash...?

Post#1 » by KobeKenobi » Sat Oct 25, 2014 6:46 am

Timberwolves are looking to offload Chase Budinger according to this article:

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--t ... 57155.html

With Nick Young out Budinger is a serviceable SF that the Lakers can use right now. Combine him with Barea as a backup PG to Lin and we can have a decent back court.

Wolves would get Nash's valuable expiring contract so they can start rebuilding with their quality young guns. It does work out in the ESPN trade machine here:

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=khrdolw

Granted Budinger and Barea are not exactly great pick ups, but beggars can't be choosers...

They aren't going to trade Budinger just for an expiring who won't even play. They'd ask for picks to come with that.

When you think about trades, you have to consider some benefit for the other team too.

Na, Nash is very much valuable as a mentor on this team but not so much for the Wolves. Budinger would be redundant when Young comes back; Barea would be either taking away Clarkson's minutes or not playing. Pass.

Of course it's a good idea, an old injured expensive guard for 2 decent backup? You have to drug Wolves GM to make it work

The Wolves would probably need more incentive to do this deal. This deal is essentially just taking Budinger off the books a year early for the Wolves, considering JJ is an expiring himself. A protected 1st would do the trick, but I can't imagine the Lakers want to rid a pick just to rid a Nash.

I thought we had a 2nd round pick that we could offer up? Let's be realistic, no one is going to give up a 1st round pick for Budinger and Barea. Wolves have Rubio and Mo Williams...they have no need for Barea and he is expiring like you said. Wolves don't want any assets, they just want to dump salary.

Bud and Barea are not worth a 1st at all, but it's also not worth it for the Wolves to take Nash for no reason. Budinger is a rotational player, and so is Barea on another team...and Flip Saunders will absolutely want an asset for them. I only mention a 1st round pick, because they Lakers don't have any actual young talent to take a flier on. I'm guessing Flip would want a pick first, but would settle for a project. Thus, this why the Lakers and Wolves are not a good match as trade partners.

I could see Dallas trying to move around their roster to look at Barea, and I think Detroit is eyeing Budz very hard with Meeks out for a while and KCP a little nicked up, though not serious.

Just saw....looks like we're going to buy JJ out, then he'll look to sign with the Mavs. Curious to see if Budz healthy and spry looking preseason nets anything from Detroit.

Oh no! Does that mean Mavs would be even better?!

Barea needs the Mav's more than the Mav's need him.

Disagree, they need one another equally. JJ needs the stability and fanbase. Dallas needs the player, as there's no chance in hell Jameer or Harris stay healthy; they have a bigger shot at Felton becoming skinny

He's not on their squad anymore. He was with the Lakers summer league team and wasn't invited to camp.
