LamarMatic7 wrote:What bothers me is why did Lever post such pedestrian stats (7/4/3) his first four games for the Mavericks before he injured his knee? He was coming off an all-star year in which he averaged 18/9/5 being 29 years old, yet Dallas started Rolando Blackman and Rodney McCray, who, granted were two good players, but one of them should have been behind Fat.

Or did he start the season injured as it is and they decided after four games that it isn't worth it? That would seem odd. But then again the sudden dip in his stats before the actual surgery happened is odd as well.

I've never seen a game in which he was playing for the Mavs.

the mavs were trying to imitate the pistons and their 3-guard rotation of thomas, dumars and johnson. the plan was to start harper and blackmon and then have lever be the backup at both guard spots and all 3 guys playing about 30 minutes a night. blackmon was coming off an all-star season the year before. harper, blackmon and lever were all at their peaks and it would have been a sick guard rotation. i think lever was just off to a slow start that year getting used to a new system and getting used to coming off the bench. he tore is ACL in that 4th game (i think) so i dont believe his slow start was due to injury.

that mavs team got hit with 3 unexpected player loses that year and they went from contenders to middle of the pack
1) the fat lever injury - torn ACL after 4 games
2) roy tarpley got suspended after 5 games and missed the next 3 years. he was averaging 20/11 prior to that suspension, coming off 17/13 the previous year
3) perkins left for lakers late in the free agency period, which i think was unexpected. the mavs were planning on him being a big part of their push for being a contender

bonus
4) randy white, a lottery pick from the previous season (dubbed the next karl malone) turned out to be a massive bust.

rotation that year should have been
pg: harper / lever / davis
sg: blackmon / lever
sf: mccray / english / white
pf: tarpley / perkins
c: donaldson / perkins / williams

He was legitimately good for half a season in New York until he got traded and took his frustration out by eating ten times a day.

Didn't realize he needed back surgery. Could've been one of the reasons he went from bad to absolutely horrendous while with us. If he's healthy he may latch on somewhere but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Cut Jason Maxiell, and bring back Jeff "Rocky" Adrien, and we'll have some legitimate frontcourt depth. Rockets fans are shocked and disappointed that they cut Adrien, especially since he was a guaranteed contract, but even more because he actually played well during his brief span on the team

I'd take both Jeff Adrien and Ish Smith on this team. Ish is a local guy, grew up in Charlotte and played at Wake. Quick as hell and a good passer. Small size though.

I wonder what the plan is with Taylor. Not at all opposed to cutting Maxiell or Taylor to pick up Adrien.

And I thought Adrien had finally found his place... Poor guy. There was plenty of playing time to be taken with the horrendous summer Morey had (of course, his intentions were the best, just didn't work out).

Adrien has looked good for 3 different teams now. So an emphatic yes to bringing him back from me.

Hell yes to bringing back Adrien. Not only would he help our frontcourt depth but he was a big part of that excellent chemistry we had last season.

They basically picked Tarik Black over Adrien. They both serve the role of backup PF in the 6'8" range that can board and provide limited offense in the paint.

I am shocked they cut Adrien. I seriously think he would've been their sixth best player this year and their best bench player. And hell yes to Adrien. Cut Maxiell, Taylor, Pargo, whoever... I want him back here. Sad thing is he may actually be our best power forward if Cody and Marvin both struggle out of the gates.

Joey Dorsey is another 6'8 PF they have.

wow at rockets cutting adrien. would much rather have him than maxiell (no offense to maxiell - but jeff is younger and we know he has great chemistry with the team).

For real, it's a complete travesty if he doesn't get picked up somewhere.
