It's tough to build a franchise around the type of player he is and if the Spurs had trouble over the years attracting big names to join the best PF to ever play the game, they'll have a lot more trouble convincing others to join someone like Leonard.

Having watched the game for over 20 years, I'm disappointed just how easy players have it these days. You score 30pts once and suddenly the word 'great' gets thrown around. You are the best player on an otherwise average team and that guarantees you get a max deal.

The standard may have been set but I never thought Kawhi would be the type to compare himself to others in the market and demand he be paid the same. And I'm extremely confident the Spurs as a business certainly won't be following that sort of lead.

Yes he is a very good player and yes we damn well need him here, but the principle of paying max for where he is right now just doesn't sit well.

Welcome to the NBA the rest of us live. You all have been spoiled with David Robinson and then Tim Duncan. The harsh reality the rest of us have had to deal with is paying players that are barely stars max money. Leonard reminds me of the Suns dilemma in paying Shawn Marion.

I believe there would be repercussions with paying Kawhi the max. The other guys - Danny Green, Splitter, Patty Mills, etc. could then want to sign for higher money. The Spurs would lose their identity and be no different from any other team if that happens. After Timmy D and Ginobili retire, new leadership is required in the locker room. This should start with the stars setting an example for everybody else if they want to continue to have a deep bench.

I've a question, if we 'll resign Kawhi paying te max next summer, what changes? I understand that it's important to rate him this season, but I think it's a risk, Kawhi could be unmotivated... It's always the Finals MVP... Losing Him would be a big loss, especially for a small market like San Antonio...

If you guys let him walk, we'd gladly take him on my Knicks!

It would be foolish to let him go. He hasn't even come close to hitting his peak yet. Those of you complaining about the lack of "popcorn" stats to justify the max contract, fail to realize that the only reason his numbers are what they are, is because he does exactly what the team asks him to do, which is to sacrifice personal stats for the good of the team. He fits perfectly in your system, and it is that system that keeps his numbers artificially deflated.

Kawhi Leonard is a fantastic true 2 way player, and letting him walk would be a huge mistake.

If the 76ers offered their 1st ( Top 3 pick) in next years draft would you trade Kawhi Leonard , your 2015 1st and a future 1st ? You would have a choice between rebuilding with Jahlil Okafor, Emmaual Mudiay or Karl Towns...

I wouldn't. We already know what we have in Kawhi, Pops and RC love him and trading him would mean taking a step backwards which we can't afford to do at this point.

I think they would consider this if Popovich was retiring and we would start over but since he is sticking around a few more years and he absolutely loves Leonard, I would bet they aren't letting him go anytime soon. The Spurs have given every indication that they want to continue making playoff pushes around Leonard and Parker in the near future and not rebuild from scratch.
