More likely it means that the Westchester Knicks are light at point guard. They drafted 2 point guards in the NBDL expansion draft. One of them (Curtis Jerrels ) signed with an overseas team. Left only Stepfon Hannah to handle point duties. Barrett is an experienced veteran point and I'd imagine the Knicks feel they need a vet at the position with their D-League team to help facilitate their player development.

Understandable but Barrett is very old... A fan of his since his HS days but at this point he is more of a euro/streetball player. Wish we had Jerrels he killed it in euro last year (that why he went back plus the money), he is still young. Wish we can reach out to a few other young players who just missed making their teams... That they can actually develop.. Like:
(If even possible to get)

Doron Lamb (22yrs)
James McAdoo (21yrs)
Jordan Hamilton (Actually had a good preseason, with
3yrs NBA experience 24yrs)
Lorenzo Brown (24yrs)
Chris Crawford (22yrs)
Peyton Siva (24yrs)
Aaron Craft (22yrs) Heady PG
Sean Kilpatrick (24yrs)
Khem Birch (22yrs)
Robert Covington (23yrs) Good Player at the 3/4
Jamaal Franklin (23yrs)
Micheal Eric (26yrs)
Kevin Jones (25yrs) Good low post scorer/Rebounder, local product
D.J Kennedy
Peyton Siva (24yrs)
Pierre Jackson (24yrs) Scorer, Defense, Speed
Malcolm Lee (24yrs)
Drew Gordon (24yrs) Had a good preseason, can shoot and pass
Marquis Teague (21yrs)
Darius Morris (23yrs)
Bryce Cotton (22yrs)
JaMychal Green (24yrs)
Fuquan Edwin (23yrs)
Will Cherry (23yrs)
Jack Cooley (23yrs)
Vander Blue (22yrs)

and others....

Oh no doubt, there are better players but I think this was more of an attempt to add a stable guy that is already under contract. They can still pursue many of these guys...although some were taken in today's draft I believe. So the Knicks likely were restricted from offering them contracts until after the draft.

Kawhi Leonard looks like a pretty good option, depending on what he could be had for.

Spurs are not letting Leonard go. They're going to match his contract this offseason

I consider that overpaying.

when you look at his usage rate v production last year and what other guards are getting this year(kemba, rubio) he'll get around 11 and that might be a low estimate.

I like Jackson. I like his versatility and ability to play the 2.

However, if I need to overpay for a PG (even though Calderon is signed), I would aim for Dragic. I think he would be able to take advantage of all the attention Melo gets and shoot 40% from three, he can play and defend the 2 spot, and he's a legitimate 2nd option. Calderon + Dragic spacing the floor for Melo would be so damn devastating---I really believe we would see Melo with some silly NBA 2k stats. It'll be hard to pray Dragic from Phoenix, but that's what every franchise is saying about its FAs now (except maybe the Hawks and Millsap?).

The issue with that, however, is that we probably need more frontcourt help. We can maybe find some three and d guys (unless they all get paid like Jodie Meeks), or even entice them to come ring-chasing, but finding a big man with all the skills for the triangle is hard. I would be absolutely ecstatic if we got Millsap.

My top trade target though? Al Horford. Chris Bosh gets known for having a great jumper, but look up Horford's stats shooting from around the arc. It's 50+%, and he doesn't have Lebron feeding him. He blocks shots, rebounds, can play center, shoots and passes. Total synergy with Melo.

So basically I have a boner for the Hawks big men. And if you don't like it, I'll show you pictures of Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph over and over again.

The most I would do for kobe would be amare and iman....there is no guarantee gasol leaves Memphis...
We would then need to bring in a big guy or two....
Make a run at millsap and/or horford

Knicks acquiring Kobe only makes sense if they acquire another legit front court player in another deal. I think Hibbert could be available for the right price.

I would love the Hibbert/West combo to go along with Anthony and Kobe. Doubt we have the chips to make it happen though.

If Gasol wont come and Noah health wont be at top, I think we should bring Al Jefferson along with Patrick Ewing as lead assistant (and big man coach)... Al fits the triangle offense; only his D is suspect!

Al would be a great fit, and would likely only cost $12-15 million per on a short term deal. Maybe re-unite the Utah front court of Jefferson and Millsap. They did make the playoffs in the West.

At this point, I'm all for getting rid of Calderon & JR for additional cap space. Keep Shump.

Rajon Rondo
Iman Shumpert
Carmelo Anthony
Quincy Acy
Marc Gasol

Top 3 in East easily.

^Yeah but do they have the capspace to sign both Rondo and Gasol if they also have to extend or pick up Shump's qualifying offer? His qualifying offer will be $3.7 mil. Of course I'm guessing they're more likely to keep him if they can dump JR for an expiring before the trade deadline. Considering price and production I believe THJ has a much better chance of being here next season.

1. That would be a great defensive team

2. That team really lacks shooting

What is a qualifying offer?
For a team to make one of their players a restricted free agent, they must submit a qualifying offer to the player by June 30. This offer must be a one year offer for 125% of the player's previous salary or the player's minimum salary plus $175,000 (whichever is greater). If a player agrees to this offer, they play under a one-year contract and become an unrestricted free agent the following year. If not, he becomes a restricted free agent.

* * *

Does that mean we have time until 30 June to negotiate a qualifying offer for Shump?! Even if wont accept it (and if stands it true that he then becomes a RFA) we can match any offers... right?!

Knicks, Pacers talked J.R. Smith-Chris Copeland deal

"One of president Phil Jackson’s big decisions this season is whether to trade J.R. Smith, and the club had recent conversations with the Pacers regarding ex-Knick Chris Copeland, according to a league source.

The 6-foot-9 Copeland, whom the Pacers signed in July 2013, has an expiring contract after bolting the Knicks for a two-year, $6 million deal, so he wouldn’t affect their 2015 cap space."

Agreed. If it came down to paying Reggie Jackson $10-12 mil a season or Dragic for $14-16 mil, I'd take Dragic 10 out of 10 times.
