Sherrod cut!!

Post#1 » by HKPackFan » Tue Nov 4, 2014 1:48 am

Who is going to be our backup tackle????? Bulaga has never made it through a full season. Sherrod definitely has been playing below average but straight out cut midseason!? Are they going to use JC trotter?? I thought he was going to be groomed as the center/guard backup.

Tretter was a tackle in college so I guess that is a possibility. My guess is that Lang would swing out to RT and Tretter would come in at RG.

How is it any scarier than it was last week? We essentially traded Sherrod for Tretter and Sherrod was a turnstyle at tackle.

They haven't announced his status yet this week, but I'm thinking he's questionable to probable.

I understand JC Trotter was a tackle in college, but I don't think he's practiced playing tackle once in at least 2 years so to think he could be an emergency tackle on Sunday seems a bit unrealistic. Maybe in the offseason or something they can make him a 5 position utility man, I dunno, but I don't see how he could possibly be ready to play tackle on 5 days of preparation after spending 2 years as a center.

I just think it's a bit risky to have your emergency tackle being your gimpy starting guard or a young player who's never practiced let alone played tackle in the NFL.

The team obviously has a plan, and I'm not a fan of Sherrod or anything, but damn this seems a risky move. Unless they think Sherrod sucked so bad a gimpy Lang playing out of position and a scrub like Taylor at guard is still better than Turnstile Derrick? :(

Im coming to the same conclusion. Maybe it's also a wakeup call for the rest of the team to get their butts in gear. If they are going to cut a 1st round pick midseason, no one's job is safe...(not literally no one, but referring to the 2nd half of the roster).

Didn't last year they cut McMillan or someone in the middle of the year and some of the players said it was a wakeup call?

Maybe that's the new MM shock treatment. Cut an under performing drafted player midyear and get the rest of the 2nd stringers to get their act together to serve notice.

I'm still surprised a guy like Demetri Goodson gets kept as #53 vs Derrick Sherrod. But then again I'm not the best judge of talent. I thought Worthy and Sherrod were going to have comeback seasons but they both **** the bed.

How bad is our 2011 drafting turning out? Randall Cobb and Davon House. And there's a possibility Both could be gone next year.

Goodson never deserved to make the roster over Rolle. I am hoping that Joe Thomas will be such a god at LB that he immediately forces his way onto the roster.

 Joe Thomas. Please be the answer at ILB.

This was an interesting article from May: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2063 ... his-season

Joe Thomas, ILB, South Carolina State

When people heard the Packers signed a Joe Thomas, they were probably hoping it was the All-Pro offensive tackle of the Cleveland Browns. Unfortunately, that's not the Thomas that Green Bay added.

nstead, it added an incredible playmaker at inside linebacker. He finished his senior season as the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year after recording 115 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and one interception.

While Thomas did play against "lesser" opponents, it's hard to ignore the overall impact he had on defense. What's most impressive about his senior statistics is the number of negative plays he caused for opposing defenses.

It's that type of playmaking ability that the Packers desperately need at inside linebacker. Smith has the speed and overall ability to eventually replace either A.J. Hawk or Brad Jones in the starting lineup.

While it could take some time for Thomas to get used to the speed of NFL offenses, if he develops quickly he could find himself making a rather large impact in his first year in the league.

Sherrod is headed to Spain to become a Matador.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Glad Smith it's back. Really liked Neal in the preseason, too. He'll help us when Starks gets hurt.

I knew Sherrod sucked but getting cut was a surprise. Shows how really awful he was. Sherrod was injured but he sucked the little he played even b4 he was hurt. Tretter was also injured but looked excellent as C in camp. He played LT in college. Yes its been awhile but its way better than never having played there. I’ll take an excellent C who started at LT in college over Sherrod every day of the week. We just made a huge upgrade guys!

BTW glad Sherrod and Worthy were BPA

What a bust. Might be the worst pick of Ted's tenure - it's either him or Justin Harrell.

Harrell was a higher pick, so I'm going with him.

I'd vote Brian bohm as the worst pick. That dude simply couldn't play while both Sherrod and Harrell had injuries ruin their careers. Then again we really don't know if either guy would have been worth a damn had they not gotten hurt.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Agree 100%. Harrell looked like a stud before getting injured again. Sherrod was just never able to improve physically as a player because of the all the injuries.

Harrell has injuries coming into the league, so there is something to be said about being aware of those risks and taking him anyway.

I'm disinclined to vote for Brohm because, as much as he sucked, the best case scenario had him as a backup for Rodgers that never/rarely saw the field. Harrell was supposed to be a stud starter, and so was Sherrod.
