Marcus Lattimore retiring

Post#1 » by bmvanthiel » Mon Nov 3, 2014 2:24 pm

49ers RB Marcus Lattimore, SF's 4th round pick in 2013 draft, is retiring due to knee problems, per @caplannfl.

Cant say Im surprised. Things were taking waaaay too long and had to know there were some issues with the recovery. Pretty big shame, was really rooting for him

@RapSheet: #49ers RB Marcus Lattimore will meet with trainers and doctors today to figure out the reason for his knee soreness. Decisions loom.

@RapSheet: What are Marcus Lattimore's options as soreness persists? Keep practicing. Be placed on season-ending NFI list. Retire. All on the table.

Doesn't look good. I would think he would want to talk to the trainers and the doctors before making a decision.

I'm so proud of Marcus. What a smart move.

Cashing in the $1.7M seems like an easy decision to me. Try and get a gig coaching next.

Was he not expecting soreness in his knees after not being able to play for awhile and the injury he had to go through??

I suspect there is more to it that just some post practice soreness. We really don't know the story because not all the info has been forthcoming. It appears there has been an ongoing issue in his recovery and he has had setbacks before but the team hasn't really disclosed it. I am also sure he has discussed his condition with the doctors and trainers. This guy does not appear to be a quitter to me. He worked really hard to come back this far. I doubt he is quitting over just some post practice soreness

$hitty. For him and the Niners. Seems like a great kid; I was really hoping he'd be a part of the organization for a while.

Tough break for the kid. Was a big fan of his throughout the process.

At least he made some money lol.

So does this make signing gore a priority? Or do we roll with hyde, hunter and draft pick?

I'm the kind of guy that admires and praises loyalty... Gore is the franchise leading rusher and I would love for him to end his career as a niner....

I still feel the guy can give so much, even if its not significant PT.... his pass protection/blitz pickup is outstanding... great guy to follow.

Wouldn't be surprised if they kept Gore around for another year. Hyde is strong, but he'll need a rotation and Hunter's also not locked up long term. This is largely dependent on what they do in the draft though. If they will be targeting another (healthy) RB in the first few rounds - then I feel bad about it - but that would be the end of the line for Gore. Gore is still very effective, but he's not tearing off the huge 50 yd runs anymore and he's getting more and more tired & worn out each year.

I agree with you. Would love another year and maybe team option 2nd year. I think him, hyde and hunter will be nice. Another vet free agent or draft pick would be nice to add as well. Never enough competition.
