I don't know how to feel about this signing, but it's definitely not a bad feeling, maybe indifferent. I guess it's a solid acquisition for a 15th man that could play the 4/5 positions a la Jeff Adrien beforehand, but I'm not expecting much production or efficiency from Jason Maxiell at this point of his career. The reputed good morale of being locker room presence should be a benefit

I like this. I can't wait to watch the Hornets this upcoming season.

Love it.

Who would have thought, when this thread was created, that this guy would be entrenched as the backup C, for perhaps forever, while a perfectly healthy Biz rotted on the bench?

I'm certainly going to pay more attention to the signings of random journeyman nobodies from now on.

Maxiell is great as a 15th man but I don't think Cho envisioned this when we signed the guy.

Cliffy must have feelings for him.

I refuse Maxiell is going to keep that role. This is so bizarre.

I'm actually starting to wonder if Maxiell is just holding down Vonleh's spot in the lineup in the interim until the latter is ready to contribute. Like last year when JT got to start with Hendo injured.

I don't know, just searching for something, anything that explains why this guy gets minutes.

He has 2 more personal fouls than rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks combined. He barely has more points and rebounds than fouls and turnovers. He is averaging nearly 8 personal fouls per 36 minutes. Those are Diop like numbers and I guess we might as well embrace it like we did Diop while it lasts. Biz is tweeting his heart out. This is actually really funny once you get over how awkward it is.

I don't think Cho and Clifford are on the same page. If Clifford was this set against not playing Biz, then they should have made a move this offseason for a backup center. I mean, this couldn't have been the plan, to give all of the backup center minutes to an old, washed up, 6'7 guy who was on his way out of the league.

He did pretty much what he was supposed to do. He stepped up to contain penetration. Zeller should have rotated down, but he was hesitant because he didn't want to leave Anderson wide open at the top of the perimeter. He should have left his man and if Anderson got a kick out then Hairston should have rotated over to help.

I'm content with what Cody Zeller did there. I would have rather gave Anthony Davis that alley-oop than Ryan Anderson a open 3-pointer. Jason Maxiell didn't do anything wrong either. It was just a well executed play by the Pelicans in which Maxiell wasn't long enough nor athletic enough to interrupt

I wish we had some flex screen plays like that in our playbook

Probably right, but I don't think Maxiell had the responsibility to cover Davis once he stepped up to help. Looks like Maxiell read Holiday's eyes and saw it coming so tried to get back but it was too late at that point. Cody made no attempt to help out on Davis. If Holiday had not telegraphed the oop and just jump stopped, he would sucked in Maxiell and Roberts and Davis would have been standing alone wide open under the basket.

This guy has no business every playing a single second in a competitive NBA game. The fact that Clifford actually chooses to play him when multiple other options are available make it so Cho basically has no choice but to cut this guy and try to sign Adrien or leave the spot open for another big if an injury happens. Every time Clifford puts him in the game he is letting the entire organization down. We were finished the second he stepped on the court against Portland and Orlando. Every time he checks in I seriously want to turn the game off. I have never disliked a player being on a team I've followed as much as I dislike him being on this team. I honestly can't believe this is an issue. Sometimes I really wonder about Clifford... I don't at all understand how he could actually think that Maxiell makes more sense with AL than Biz/Zeller/Marvin do under virtually any circumstance unless he is basically incompetent.
