Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread - Part 2
Is Booker playing the stretch-4 for Utah or is he at the 3? Booker's deal is a little too-rich IMO and his defense was pretty bad as others have pointed out. However, give me Booker at Seraphin's salary in-place of Seraphin and I'm good. If Seraphin had been brought along with one of the teams good at player development, perhaps he would be a baller now. I don't rule-out Seraphin going to another team and "getting it" there.

Booker not getting it was better than Seraphin. I guess the only consolation is that Seraphin is more equipped to play center.

Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread - Part 2
Would Booker have developed 3s in a Wiz uni? I don't know. Would Booker have developed into a passable defender here? I don't know that either but unless his defense has taken a significant turn for the better, I'm happy we didn't give him a multi-year deal.

I think Booker would have developed the 3 here too. His shot got better every year, and his range improved every year. Wittman was willing to let Gooden shoot 3's so he clearly isn't philosophically opposed to a stretch-4 shooting 3 pointers.
Booker on a 2-year deal is better than Seraphin for one more year, so that was probably a mistake. In the grand scheme, it doesn't make much difference though. I'm just as happy with Gooden, particularly when he is paid the vet minimum. We'll probably end up being fairly happy with the Humphries signing as well. In any case, whomever we signed to play backup PF would have just been a 2-year rental. We're going to clear the deck in 2016 so it matters little.

The Cavs look like garbage on offense and defense. Right now Love is the best player on that team and his defense is awful. Lebron looks average, all that weight loss seems to have done him in. He doesn't seem like a force of nature running the floor anymore. Kyrie is what we all thought he was...a poor man's Gilbert Arenas. What will Cavs' fan excuse be for him now. I heard that with all this talent he was going to kill the league with assists.

They have new coach, new system, new players. Don't bury them yet.

Nothing gives me more pleasure than burying them now.

Its an insult to Gilbert to even put Kyrie in the same universe. Last I checked, Gilbert made 3 ALL NBA teams, and led his team to the playoffs (that didn't have any defensive talent sans Haywood).

It would seem that the Curse of Les Boulez has migrated to OKC.
Or they've hired Abe Saperstein as team doctor.

Seems eerie as hell doesn't it? Karma finally kicking in for Seattle me thinks. Basketball gods be like "As punishment we shall send your bounty to the other Washington!"

If anybody is the next Gilbert Arenas, it's Damian Lillard. They have a very similar playing style - nothing but 3's and hard drives to the basket.

Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread - Part 2
Using numbers from last season, the player who shows up in my statistical doppelganger thingamabob as most similar to prime Arenas is James Harden. Other names high on the list (though not all that similar) include Durant, Carmelo, Steph Curry, Westbrook.
Lillard and Irving have basically the same similarity score, but neither is all that similar to Arenas overall. I have Lillard with a sim score of 73 (where 100 is identical) and Irving with a 72.
The guys most similar to prime Arenas (2006-07 rated as his best season in PPA):
- Kobe 0405
- McGrady 0304
- Pierce 0203
- Kobe 0708
- McGrady 0405
- Harden 1213
- Harden 1314
- Kobe 0001
- Redd 0607

Irving is who I thought he was.
Folks were trying to say how much his defense had improved because of his work in some FIBA exhibition games.
I saw no difference.
Irving is also not a PG. He's first and foremost a ball-dominant scorer. Problem is, so is Dion Waiters but Waiters actually is able to get others involved while Irving passes as a last resort. Playing these two in the backcourt together will not work. Neither is able to adjust their game to effectively play alongside the other so those two need to be broken up. Moving Waiters to a 6th man role would be a good start.

Batum and Matthews were guarding Irving for most of the game- so they were the ones that punked Irving (and Lebron too!)

Cleveland's bigs are also terrible at rim protection, and Kevin Love is an especially poor defender when it comes to pick and roll defense. Irving can be a passable defender when he has guys like Davis, Faried, Cousins, and Plumlee playing behind him. Plus LeBron's effort on the defensive end hasn't always been there especially in the losses. Still, I agree Irving has long way and changing up the backcourt could be a step in the right direction.

I agree that Harden is the closest comparison to Arenas. They're practically the same player.
I was just talking about players in the Portland/Cleveland game.
