The record long since shattered, Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich continue to extend their NBA standard for most victories by a player-coach tandem.
Wednesday marked the latest milestone with their 900th regular season victory, 94-92 over the Hawks. It came nearly 17 years to the day after their first in Denver on Oct. 31, 1997.
As Andrew Lynch of Hardwood Paroxysm noted, those 900 victories account for nearly 40 percent of the Spurs’ entire franchise total.
They now stand 125 victories — two outstanding seasons’ worth — ahead of former record-holders Karl Malone and Jerry Sloan at 775. Sloan also has a hand in third place with John Stockton at 768.
And 1000 is quite possible as well.
