Lakers Expected to Pursue Rondo in Free Agency

Post#1 » by EArl » Fri Nov 7, 2014 1:22 am

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/23 ... ree-Agency

The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to pursue Rajon Rondo in free agency, according to several rival executives.

Rondo is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason and Kobe Bryant has been a longtime admirer.

The Boston Celtics are in rebuilding mode and their intentions for Rondo in the long-term are unclear.

The Lakers could have more than $30 million in cap space

Thoughts on this. i know some of you don't like rondo, but I'm a fan depending on the contract.

I would love to have Rondo on the lakers next to kobe for the right price. However, I do have some concerns regarding Rondo. Can he stay healthy? We have had enough injuries. His durability (or anybody's durability for that matter) is important for the lakers. This is my biggest concern considering he seems to get injured every year. Many posters often bring up that effective pgs next to Kobe have to be shooters. I agree with this point but I think Rondo's intangibles definitely help Kobe's games. Rondo does need the ball in his hands. However, unlike Nash and even Gary Payton, Rondo is an arrogant player that is not going to listen to Kobe's demands. That was one great thing about Derek Fisher. He would waive Kobe off or give Kobe the "f*ck you" look. Rondo will do that. I also think Rondo would be one of the few players that push Kobe to play differently. Nonetheless, Rondo has to also understand that he has to play defense and can't be lazy on D or get burned by reaching too much. If we were to go have to Rondo we need to also go after shooters and an actual scoring threat down low (pretty sure a player like this won't be available during the off season right?). Thoughts?

Rondo Farmar
Kobe Clarkson
Swag #5 pick
Randle Kelly
Marc or Asik, Hou 1st, Sacre

Nbadraft.net has Stanley Johnson at 5. He looks nice http://www.nbadraft.net/players/stanley-johnson.

If Randle picks up a 3 pt shot while injured a la love and griffin, starting swag as well, plus that bench, the shooting is actually decent. If swags D is whack, put Stanley in.

oh god please no, is rondo even a top 15 point guard right now?

id rather have lin for what would probably be half the price than Rondo.

Of course, the Lakers want to add more injured players on the roster.

I thought Rondo would certainly command max?

He's leads all PGs in rebounds and assists, averaging a hair under a triple double. He is a top 3 defender at his postion. But he is a bad shooter, at pg, so probably not.

I seriously don't get all the rondo hate. Is there a knock on him besides his shooting?

I think how he fits with kobe is very very low on the checklist if it's even a point worth considering.

To me the only way this makes some sense for the lakers is if you think having rondo in the fold dramatically improves your chance at getting someone else down the road, possibly the following summer when kobe is off the books.

How do rival executives know what we're going to do and who we're going to pursue? I thought the Lakers FO wasn't being transparent?

Rival execs is the new unnamed sources. If I was a "rival exec" I'd be planting stories trying to simply guess what teams are planning all day long. If I was a writer id be asking every gm for their opinion on something they can only guess about and passing it off as some insight.

There can't possibly be a worse backcourt partner for this version of Kobe Bryant.

Rondo brings the ball up, passes to Kobe on the right block for a post up. The opposing PG immediately goes to double kobe. Kobe has 2 options.

1. Shoot over double team. (most likely to happen)
2. Passes to Rondo for a 3pt shot at 12%.

This would happen EVERY single time.

To be fair, we'll be playing Curry, Pau, Bledsoe & Dragic 12 times a season, then Parker, Lillard and Conley 9 more. It'd pay to have a PG who is a tough competitor, good defender along with a shot blocker in the paint. Rondo is attainable because he has no love for Ainge who shopped him every chance he had without fail and he's one of the players who can play in LA, he loves the national TV games and there's a running joke with Bill Simmons that national TV Rondo is a superstar so I wouldn't mind him at all.

We can offer him a 4 year max, so it'd last until he's 32. If his deal starts at $18 mil and the cap hits $90 mil, that's like 1/5th which is no big deal at all for his production.

Rondo isn't close to being a top 3 defender at PG .

my thoughts are that you should have read the article before you posted. the tittle of your thread is very misleading. the Lakers are not expected to pursue Rondo, the article is about the writers opinion of what the Lakers should do AND according to writers opinion Kobe has to be traded for Rondo to play in LA. wtf? yeah, that's my thought

I thought of that reason as well but unfortunately he has such a bad reputation as someone who can't get along with others that I doubt he'd attract anyone.
