I feel bad for Bengals fans that Dalton/Lewis aren't bad enough to be fired, but aren't good enough to win.

Kind of like if AJ Hawk was your QB and coach.

Newhouse filling in at RT for the Bengals and getting holding calls along with looking ugly giving up a recent sack.

IMO one of the least appreciated positions importance wise on NFL rosters are backup offensive lineman, especially the backup swing tackle. Given how often football players get hurt, backup lineman often end up having to play and if they suck, it can really sabotage an offense.

Hell, look at the Packers. It sure seems like our line depth is poor outside of at center unless Tretter could be competent if either of our tackles got hurt. Last game vs the Saints when Lang got hurt, Taylor filled in at guard and he struggled quite a bit. Granted, Taylor having to come in mid-game without any first team practice reps is tough, but he barely looked like a guy worthy an NFL roster spot in preseason games.

I feel bad for Bengals fans that Dalton/Lewis aren't bad enough to be fired, but aren't good enough to win.

Kind of like if AJ Hawk was your QB and coach.

That's why when some people were saying that JJ Watt was a worthy MVP candidate, i thought talk like that was ridiculous even though Watt is clearly the best defensive player in the league and destined for the HOF iF he can keep good health.

Top tier quarterbacks are so incredibly important in today's football, to me no defensive player in the history of the NFL would ever be deserving of the MVP given how the game is played today.

Put say Rodgers on Jacksonville and they'd likely win at least 5-6 games. Put Watt on the Jags instead and they might win at most an extra game or two. Great quarterbacks are like having a LeBron or Durant in the NBA.

I have a question for anyone here who played at least high school football.

So the Browns running back fumbled after crossing the goal line, making the Bengals recovery moot.

Before the eventual recovery though, multiple players on both teams tried falling on the ball, but failed to do so. We see that happen every week where a fumble is on the ground a anywhere from 1 to 4-5 players try falling on the ball, yet it keeps squirting out before someone finally secures it.

Why does that happen so much?

I get that a football has an odd shape. That players have lots of equipment on. Hands taped up on many lineman. Even with all of that, why do so many players fail when simply just trying to fall on the ball, not trying to pick it up and run?

Because they fall on top of it, which you really aren't supposed to do. You are supposed to slide into it while in the fetal position and pull it into your stomach.

I can't really explain it. I would just suggest throwing a football on the ground and then trying to fall on top of it. It seems easy but whether it's the shape of the ball or the spin of the ball it's actually difficult if you fall right on top of it. Add 10 other guys desperate to get the ball as well and it makes it even tougher to hold on to.
