Week 1 Blog: Growing Pains on Offense

Post#1 » by LamarMatic7 » Wed Nov 5, 2014 11:11 pm

So.. I'll be attempting to write a blog here and there this season about my observations and just general thoughts on our team.

Here's my first attempt, mostly about what I didn't like on offense, our placement there and such:

If these won't spark any kind of reaction, I'll stop bothering you guys.

Honorable mentions: Marvin Williams matching his shoes with our uniform colors

I like.

Good read. I look forward to the next one.

Finally sat down and read this and think you make a really good point about Marvin's location in our offense. Our offense is clearly designed such that if Al is fed the ball on the post from the wing, the man feeding him the ball is supposed to dive down into the paint and no one really rotates over to that spot on the wing. Maybe Clifford is inviting the double and hoping for more quick dump offs to the cutter, which would suit MKG's game perfectly, but I agree that it seems to negate Marvin's game.

Thanks.

It really does enrage me when you pay attention to it every time. Marvin brings nothing to the table whilst standing there.

I had assumed that Marvin would stay on the left wing perimeter so the other big is sucked out, leaving Al to either operate one on one in the post with no other big to help or to pass out to Marvin for a 3 from his favorite area if the other big collapses.

Definitely something to keep an eye on, good on ya Lamar for pointing it out.

Interesting.

I envisioned him on the right wing.

Edit: Totally pointless post since you knew that from my blog...

 at the edit.

I guess my issue with that is that it leaves the other big free to help on Al, one of the other perimeter guys can scramble on the kick out. That's not really an option with the spacing I talked about. Also I feel like last year you saw a lot more of McBob feeding Al in a sort of high-low offense, whereas now it seems like Marvin rarely is throwing it inside to Al.

Yeah, definitely. And McBob is a whole lot more nifty at throwing it inside and finding a position for a shot. He would get open looks from the three up top.
