This is slightly OT, but still NBA related and not thread worthy.

You know how people constantly spout nonsense like "I could take (insert NBA scrub here) 1v1"? Most of them mean it as a joke, but some of these idiots truly think that! So lemme share with you what happened to me today and if you are one of those idiots, hopefully you will change your mind.

Now, I am not some super pro baller, but I am able to dominate most of the regular pick up games. I played ball competitively in my youth so I have decent technique and usually read the game pretty well, abuse miss-matches and that is enough to win most pickup games. I still play consistently, 2-3 times per week, in various amateur leagues.

So today in the gym I meet this guy who I knew in my youth. He was always pretty darn good, but now he is actually a pro baller in one of the best teams in our national league. That, however, is very far from the NBA level as you can imagine! If he was in the NBA, you would call him the Lord of Scrubs or the Greatest Tank Commander, one of those 2. So anyway, we start talking and I don't know what goes through my head but I challenge him to play 1v1. I know he is better than me but I think why the hell not, at least I will see how I cope. He is 6'4 and I am 6'4, so no height advantage for him.

We shoot for ball, I swish it and start the game by knocking down a 3 right in his grill. I am positively pumped by the fact that at least I scored, this is going better than expected. He tries to respond with a 3 and misses, I get a rebound and hit another 3, right at him again. So it's 4-0 and I am like "**** killing him ho ho ho" and I don't know what happened to me but I said "I didn't know such scrubs can make it to the national league". I meant it as a joke, but he is a basketball player, he doesn't get jokes. His eyes light up and he just DEMOLISHES ME from then on. I mean I literally couldn't do jack **** on either end. 21-4, easy as that. I am a bit humiliated but hey, that was sorta to be expected.

Now I think to myself that maybe now after he demolished me he will be happy again but he slams the ball to my chest and says "let's play one more you ^%^%, you won't score this time". I am positively scared that he will kill me so I am trying to think of a way to weasel out of it but I still have to look like a man right. So I reluctantly agree, we play again, this time I lose 21-0. Twenty one to zero. This guy is no NBA guy, just a good national player, and he just ripped me a new one.

Thankfully he has had enough with me at this point and I am very pleased by that. I go shower and prepare to leave. I was having some trouble in the parking lot and I see that guy going to his car, so I call out to him: "yo man, could you help me out? My hands are still shaking after our games, I cannot get out of my wheelchair". And wouldn't you believe it, he just looked at me and went to his car. What a fking douchebag.
