Following a few days rest, representing the most powerful city in the world, YOUR Washington Wizards head back to the friendly confines of the Verizon Center for a mid-week match up with the Detroit Pistons.

YOUR Wizards take the court following an unnecessarily-too-close victory over the injury-decimated Indiana Pacers, the second win vs Indy within the space of a few days. SF Paul Pierce has had a string of a couple of sub-par games in a row and, hopefully, has benefited from the rest since the Saturday night game in Indianapolis.

Detroit heads to DC after a Monday night match-up at Chicago in the United Center. They head to the windy city after a frustrating one-point loss to the Utah Jazz at home on Sunday night - which featured C Andre Drummond's imitation of a Hoover, vacuuming up 18 rebounds in the game. This is noteworthy as the Wizards have struggled on the glass against their opponents.

The PG match-up between John Wall and Brandon Jennings looks to be a good one.

Let's meet the starting lineups:

Image_____Image

_______PG John Wall, 6'4" (Kentucky)______________PG Brandon Jennings, 6'1" (Oak Hill Academy)
________19.0 ppg, 8.7 apg, 3.9 rpg________________________12.4 ppg, 5.9 apg, 2.7 rpg

Image_____Image

_______SG Garrett Temple, 6'6" (LSU)__________________SG K. Caldwell-Pope, 6'5" (Georgia)
________10.7 ppg, 2.0 apg, 4.1 rpg__________________________12.4 ppg, 1.0 apg, 4.0 rpg

Image_____Image

_______SF Paul Pierce, 6'8" (Kansas)___________________SF Josh Smith, 6'9" (McEachern H.S.)
________11.9 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.7 apg_________________________14.7 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 4.3 apg

Image_____Image

_______PF Nene Hilario, 6'11" (Brazil)__________________PF Greg Monroe, 6'11" (Georgetown)
________12.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 3.0 apg_________________________17.2 ppg, 11.4 rpg, 2.6 apg

Image_____Image

_______C Marcin Gortat, 6'11" (Poland)________________C Andre Drummond, 6'11" (UConn)
________14.0 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.1 bpg_________________________9.6 ppg, 11.7 rpg, 1.7 bpg

With a few days of rest behind them, can YOUR Washington Wizards rebound with a full 48-minute effort? The Detroit match-up could be problematic, as they sport players who can exploit Washington's early-season weakenesses (defending against quick point guards and rebounding).

And if you're a Pistons fan, you're invited to partake in the Wizards trolling and insults thread. Come in a good-natured spirit and drop your most clever, witty, and snarky bombs at the Wiz. It's a safe place, we invite it. (With fair warning that we'll give it as good as we take it.)

Josh Smith setting a torrid pace so far, shooting 33.7% from the field (on 16 attempts per game) and 48.6% from the foul line. At least he has only attempted 9 3s (making 0).

He wasn't that bad at the foul line during his rookie contract.

Ugh, bad matchups at every position. Could get ugly.

One of those little waterbug guards that always gives Wall trouble.
Josh Smith against Paul Pierce, ugh.
Nene against Monroe, double ugh.
Gortat against Drummond, yikes.

Maybe we'll get a thirty point game from Temple.

I hope we've got a whole "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" thing going because on paper this team should wipe the floor with us.

My girlfriend is coming to the game with me, has friends in Detroit and wants to root for them.

Watch him go postal on us :/

Everyone seems to go off.

Randy also sucks as a game manager. Still allows for massive leads to build or be lost. Dude looks like he's been sniffin' somethin special most games.

This is a bad team. We need to beat them. I like that we'll be able to go big on big and play our preferred style.

I don't see why any of these matchups except Wall/Jennings is particularly bad. Pierce can lock up Smith. Just give him the jumper. Gortat is typically an excellent defensive rebounder and should keep Drummond off the glass. Frankly, it might work better if Nene guards Drummond because Nene is really good at boxing out (leaving Gortat free to grab the boards).

I look forward to watching Nene go to work on Monroe.

KCP and Josh Smith are shooting very poorly. Jennings is not a distributor. He's more of a scorer. The Pistons collectively have talent but they don't mesh well together so far. Smith and Drummond are horrible free throw shooters. That said, I think some on this board are underestimating the Pistons.

Jennings is the kind of scorer who can go off for a big game against Washington. Drummond is a way better rebounder than Gortat. KCP can't keep shooting 20 something percent. The law of averages says he's going to break out sooner or later. Greg Monroe had a monster game a couple of games ago. Detroit is two and one against the east.

KCP seems to be one of those young players whose either very good or terrible. I figure as long as he starts out slowly, the Wiz have a big advantage.

you guys are wrong about wall. lil guards give him problems but jennings isnt one because they are friends and play together alot in the summer. wall gets up for him and plays hard against him. he wont get smoked by him and will probably clearly look like the best player on the floor. i also expect pierce to bounce back in this next stretch

This would be a good game for Pierce to bounce back. Wall has been getting him a lot of open looks. I won't be surprised if Pierce or Otto Porter has a good game.

Gordon Hayward scored a lot against Detroit at crunch time.

A few other notes that I'd love to see people incorporate in to their game threads:

Wiz: 20th in ORtg, 5th in Drtg
Det: 21st in ORtg, 18th in DRtg

Wiz Offensive Four Factors:
efg%: 16th
TOV% 10th
OReb% 26th
FT/FGA: 14th

Det Offensive Four Factors
efg%: 30th
TOV% 5th
OReb% 5th
FT/FGA: 22nd

Wiz Defensive Four Factors:
efg%: 12th
TOV% 6th
DReb% 15th
FT/FGA: 17th

Det Defensive Four Factors:
efg%: 11th
TOV% 29th
DReb% 11th
FT/FGA: 15th

Detroit has played an easier schedule (28th) than the Wiz (23rd). SRS rates the Wiz about average (16th) and the Pistons really badly (27th).

Wiz need to keep Drummond and co off of the offensive boards. Without that, it will be hard for Detroit to generate offense. Wiz must limit turnovers against a DET team that's really bad at forcing them.

I had the Pistons better than they are right now but then again I didn't think they would go back to playing Drummond, Smith, and Monroe together. The Pistons gave the Wizards some trouble last year but Washington can easily win this game - of course the Wizards have to get better wing play from Pierce, Temple, and Porter.

One of the best Gortat's blocks in the last season came in a game vs Pistons:

Not a good matchup, not with the way this team has been rebounding.

Coming off a few days of rest perhaps they come out with fire in their bellies, but I fully expect to drop this one.

Wizards ran out of gas especially Pierce.. he shouldn't be starting every game unless it's against a elite team. I don't think he can handle big minutes no matter how much conditioning he does you can't beat age. Rice has been disappointing so far thought he would make some noise after SL but that might take longer than expected. Their defense at the 3 has be below average so far and rebounding has been mediocre. Shots haven't been falling easy looks but they had Defense to fall back on and that isn't a "staple" to fall back on.

DET on a 0-2 skid and in the middle of a 4 game road trip

and they haven't won on the road yet.

Is it a set up or another W

7-2 is in reach before DAL and CLE at Home.

Fingers Crossed. Every game passed is a game closer to Beal returning

Beal is supposed to be back around Thanksgiving right? I'm thinking of going to that Wiz-Hawks game on the 25th, would be amazing if it was his first game back
