we fixed the sf position that has been hurting us for years

do we need to wait for bmac and nik to grow?

to be honest i don't like the coach, but then again i have not been fan of any coach since RA, will Maybe reggie theus he was ok

Time or a really good trade. Cousins is not in his prime. Rudy Gay and Collison are just getting into theirs. BMac and Stauskas aren't close. I think staying put we're close to a playoff team this season, and will be next year.

I'd say time and a trade. This team still isn't the most balanced and could use a talent upgrade somewhere to replace what was lost in IT. Collison has made this team better but you can see the pressure that's put on Gay and Cousins to flat out dominate. Still looking around, I can't see anyone better than Smith at his likely asking price that could come in and bring a combo of both talent and defense as an unquestioned upgrade. Yes it's a gamble but this team doesn't have the assets to do anything else really.

Another name that would interest me is Dante Cunningham. Saw the headline that he's having a tough time getting back into the league and he could be a solid addition at SF/PF. He's a solid defender and a really strong dude. Good role player. The question is whether this team would be bumped up any from adding him though.

Hopefully Ben keeps playing like this we need more 3 point shooting you can't win shooting the way we have. We need Collison to get to his 36% average, Nik to get going and Ben to stay around 36-38%. And we need 1 more shooter to go with them and a back up big man above 6'9.
We get that an we are good our big 2 are very good scores and we have defense just need more time to gell and shooters.

To answer the OP's question it's TIME and experience playing as a team.

Good teams address different needs throughout the year. Thats how you get better. How your role players get better. For example, you learn how to attack a zone defense. What separates a good team from a bad team is they learn how to overcome an issue (zone defense) and move on to the next problematic area. Bad teams struggle on their problems and never move forward.

So with that said...... the Kings have shown promise this year. Like others have stated right now the best move is no move at all. Develop your investments, let your coach do his job, and see what you actually have.

OK, I know I've brought this up like 10 million times, but do you think situation has anything to do with it? That team is playing no differently, and using it's players no differently than last year. In fact, SVG has already gone back to using Smith at SF. If Smith is your number 1 I think you're screwed. We've seen him as a number 2/3 in Atlanta and he wasn't so bad. He played pretty well next to Joe Johnson and Al Horford. Hmmm... both those guys are somewhat similar to the Kings best two players don't you think? Skill wise at least. It's a gamble but playing at an adequate level in a situation that mixes with your skills and not being able to because the situation sucks and your role changes is the same thing that happened to Rudy Gay in Toronto. Since they had interest in Smith I'm going to give the Kings brass credit that they know how to use him too.

I'm not disagreeing with that, and I'm sure that's what the Pistons are doing as well. Right now the good thing is the Kings have the momentum should the trade talks resume.

Free agency is a huge question mark though. Everyone is assuming that there will be a huge cap increase but even if there is the Kings are just going to be right in the thick of things with every other team. The Kings still have young players and their contracts coming up and they have to re-up Gay which if he keeps this up you're looking at a max contract.

Smith won't make the extra pass. Doesn't matter if he is the number 1 or number 4 option. If he makes that pass I'd say do it. But he doesnt, he ignores open teammates near the basket and Jacks up shots.

Trust me, not even Smith is delusional enough to pass up two far superior offensive talents. And the main reason I think that is because of the kind of coach the Kings have now. Malone is the main reason why I think this team can go out on a limb if the fit is right and it can work out very well in the end.

In what way? They can go over the cap to re-sign players, it's once you are up near the cap that you can't be any sort of true player in free agency. That's also another reason why I think making this kind of trade sooner than later is going to be very important. Beyond the fact that there are few realistic options who fit into the way this team wants to and is playing in some ways, the reality is there are few options in any way that are at a relative level of impact and potential pay off considering this teams assets. There is no way the Kings can ever use the cap space gained from letting Williams expire, which this summer there shouldn't be any if they re-sign Gay, to sign a Smith level talent. When you tack on the worthwhile skills that Smith does have I think it still points towards making that kind of move as long as the Pistons are just looking for an out like the Raptors were.

If this team is for real I don't think worrying about messing it up is the right way of looking at it. I think you look at it like you're just a few steps away so taking a chance like this one, if it works, could literally put you into instant contender status. If it doesn't work you just traded a solid role player and decent expiring for the chance of making a major leap. You may be a little less than you were but you could be way more than you were if it works. The risk vs. reward when you consider all other avenues to personnel improvement seem pretty obvious to me when I look at it from all angles. This would all depend on how the Pistons value Smith of course. This team shouldn't have to give up McCallum, or Ben, or Stauskas for him. Not now at least.

I still think Josh Smith is the perfect 4 for us. I believe we can turn him into the player we want. It's different when players have something to play for and a role. Josh Smith is an above average passer and given the correct settings, can go back being the 09-10 player.
