Give Tampa a few more seasons and they'll be in contention. Give the Nationals a few more seasons and they'll be the bottomdwellers of the NL East still

It's no different than 25 teams passing on the best pitcher (Porcello) because his price tag was too high... the Pirates have to draft like the A's.
The Pirates still have some good prospects in the minors, more than just Walker and McCutchen... Bullington, Van Benschoten (pitching Sat), Bixler... this one tall as hell RHP, upwards of 6'5, can't remember his name... combine their minor leagues with their already youthful major league team, and I'd take them over the Nats any day.
A lot of those guys have had injury problems and aren't even ranked in the top 10 my BA anymore.
You have the number four pick in the draft and you blow it on a lefty closer? If you're like the A's with the Moneyball draft and you cut a deal with Jeremy Brown because you have three first rounders and you need to save money elsewhere, fine. But you don't cut a deal with a guy because he's willing to take less money when you draft that high. Ask the Padres how Matt Bush worked out and get back to me. The A's model is built upon taking advantages of market inefficencies, not being cheap. That's why the A's make the playoffs every year and Pittsburgh is the worst franchise in baseball, one handles their money smartly and the others are cheap. mahalo

KCs at least going in the right direction... both PIT and WAS are going down, but WAS's pathetic major league club and just in general lack of talent up and down their system makes them worse to me... PIT has some great young arms, and a few good positional players... the Nationals have Zimmerman and Cordero as far as major league ready young players goes...
