I just wish he'd fix his rotations. He can be as nice as he wants, but just stop with this ridnour ****.

I'm curious to hear from a real coach about the wisdom of "riding" your starters too long. It seemed like he got outflanked. I thought something seemed funny in the first half when their starters came back in and we still had most of our backups on the floor. Then with a minute left to go in the third, I noticed the bigs still hadn't gotten a rest.
That's fine if some guy can't get out of his way one night or he wants to flip between veteran guards. Otherwise, there's something to be said for sticking to the game plan.

No matter how much a player likes a player friendly coach, I reckon the players are going to hear from friends, family, media and everyone about how bad the coach is which will in turn affect the players.
Yep!!!! This and a AND 1 from me!!!
I hope he is trying to get fired!!!! He is doing such a great job of that!! It is almost as if he intentionally targets and destroys any sign of a winn!
Now, if he is receivng this type of advise on the bench......... fire them all, the entire staff right now!

JV is dumpster material. I don't want nice. I want competence. That said I doubt he gets fired. He has a pass for the year.

JV seems to be behind the curve of this team. He is sugar coating losses and making it seem ok, as though its all part of our learning process, which was great for last years team. But this years team doesnt see itself in that light. This team can handle harsh truths and criticism and i think JV's cotton wool approach is almost insulting to our skill level. When your players are harder on themselves than the coach, then there is a problem. Im so tired of hearing the generic "there are two teams on the basketball court and unfortunately only one can win" type crap. Our team may be young but they can handle more of a push than this. Our rookies are mature and our young guns like Vuc, Vic, Evan and Tobes are all strong enough to take constructive criticism. I want JV to be mad, be fking angry! We had this game and it was taken away. That shouldnt just be accepted by a team that is competitive.
Very very frustrating.

100% agree with this. This learning curve **** he's spitting however gets old when you have hacks like Ridnour in at the crunch instead of your young future PG. Mind boggling... I would have thought having your future on the court at the crucial time to see how they react would be a learning curve not a have a PG who is probably lucky he's got a job in the NBA and not working at Mcdonalds right about now..
Disgusted with this loss and we the fans deserve better and by that we expect our coach to come out and man up that he stuffed up.. AGAIN

Not to mention that young PG was in the game in crunch time against Philly on the road and pretty much single handedly won us the game.

yeah.....about that.....At some point you have to start winning games or you'll be like the kings. They get high picks almost every year and yet they don't get any better......treadmillEricAnderson wrote:Keep him a little longer..one last high pick can't hurt

Re: Should the Magic fire JV now or wait abit?
It is safe to say that whatever view JV takes and see's this team through, at the most critical times in close games, it is the total opposite of what most others to include announcers and beat writers see!
As I watched the game last night, I could not help feeling like "JV is going to find a way for us to lose this game" and he did!
It is also safe to say that I was not alone (in this sentiment) and many others were feeling the same way, and just at that moment, (the start of the 4th qtr) looking at the lineup and not seeing our best defensive players there at the start, and knowing that we needed stops and fast break points, we have Luke and BG at the 1 and 2 positions only means that the defense will suffer, which it did!
Now, if anyone can please give me a valid reason to bench Payton in the 4th qtr, I would love the hear it but I think is beyond reason!
Harkless and Elfrid have worked well in the defensive schemes and produced steals and fast breaks......... ummmm the very thing we needed to win this game!
Now did anyone hear in JV's post game interview when he said, "They don't want to hear what a coach has to say?" . I think JV is starting to lose this locker room and he knows it!
The reason they don't want to hear you coach is because you have continued to make all the wrong personnel/match up decisions at the right time...to the opposing teams advantage, every game!
Yes, this is a young team, a very young team, but without drinking the KOOLADE they have shown us a lot of what they are capable of over the course of the past few games, to include fight for a win.
We must take advantage of every opportunity to win every game every time we hit the floor, JV must start to gain the respect of other teams, coaches and here is the big one.... the Ref's!! Not blaming the refs here, but the lack of fouls called for our guys in the paint, and the completely unbalanced # of calls that the opposition gets, lends itself to the lack of respect we get, starting from the coach!
I am trying to remember the call in the 3rd qtr that caused Casey to lose his mind (and he was justified) he/they immediately got 2 make up calls back to back against us!
Rebuilds are a progression, in my view if the coaching decisions, specifically with games on the line continue this way, we are going to lose a very talented group/team due specifically to the lack of tangible and verifiable leadership!
JV... it is time to step up your game dude, the guys you are supposed to lead, may have left you behind! Catch up..... For the record, I think he can do it!

So playing Ridnour over Payton the whole 4th quarter against the raptors last night wasn't a glaring mistake? We had something like a 7 point lead when he pulled payton out. Lowery abused Ridnour for 12 straight mins and that move single handedly lost us the game. If we had a competent coach we would be competing for the 8th seed.

If a coach thinks young players "They don't want to hear what a coach has to say?" then the coach is done. JV isn't going to salvage his job if it has already gone this far after only 2 seasons and 7 games.

Re: Should the Magic fire JV now or wait abit?
Balanced thoughts on Vaughn:
The team is missing a starter and an important rotation player. There are also a lot of new players on the team. So I like that he's experimenting with the rotation a bit. He's reduced Dedmon's minutes, for example. He's shown a willingness to go small occasionally. He's willing to yank Ben Gordon for Willie Green or vice versa. He's re-introduced Harkless to the rotation. I'm a little concerned about what he's doing to specific players, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. Nothing seems to be set in stone.
He's called some good timeouts. I remember we've pointed them out in the game threads. I like that he's willing to call them early in a quarter if things look shaky. This is a young team and I'd rather he use them early than save them for the final minute.
It's easy to nitpick everything he does. The only consistent failing I've noticed is an inability to read the flow of the game. He rides players a little too long. He often leaves the bench (especially the veteran guards) out there a few possessions too long after the opposing coach decides to attack them. In the Toronto game it was the opposite: he squeezed every last second out of the starters even when the Raptors went to their bench, then had to sub in nearly the entire 2nd unit at once.
I recognize that our bench is weak right now and we can't play our starters 48 minutes. But if he states in interviews that he's going to use players based on the flow or matchups or whatever, he needs to get it right. So far, he consistently fails to quit when he's ahead, and that puts the team in a hole that's difficult to climb out of.

This is my point, out of his own mouth, he says they don't want to hear from him!
I am of the mindset that he lost them last year, with the Krazy rotations and DNP's.

Ain't that the truth. Come to think of it, whenever a player gives credit to the staff, they never pinpoint Vaughn the coach, but say "coaching staff." Vaughns an extremely nice and likeable guy, but hardly a leader or direct with his players.

No doubt!! In fact, come on over JV, meet my daughter kinda guy, just not NBA Head Coach material at this time! I also think he may want to be in the FO at some point, crunching numbers I hope, just not in the area of player development! IMHO!

Re: Should the Magic fire JV now or wait abit?
JV played in the NBA for 12 seasons and was an assistant coach under Pop for 3 seasons. He may not be a great coach but he sure as **** knows a lot more about basketball than any of us here. I am shocked to see so many calling him an idiot.
Everyone is crying about Luke playing over Payton last night in what was a very competitive game against a team tied for the best record in the entire league.
Now, were we competitive because of Luke or in spite of Luke? None of us knows for sure. All we know for sure is that his choice resulted in a competitive game against a better team. I'm shocked at how upset everyone is.
