Kyle Korver All Star Watch...

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Thu Oct 30, 2014 5:31 am

I think this is the first time Kyle has become a legit #1 or #2 option for a team in his whole NBA career, and he is stepping up to the increased minutes and shots.

Joe Johnson is on the decline. Wade is still good, when healthy, and Beal will be out for a while, Stephenson i think is overrated.

Kyle will have good nights and off nights, but if Kyle can get a healthy 16ppg, i think he has a shot at making a reserves spot on the east all stars.

Well, I disagree that Korver can be a #1 or #2 option.
I love the guy, but not one team in the league would rely on him as their #1, so he's just a very good option to have.
He played fantastic last night but relying on him to carry the load won't get us very far.

As far as the 1 / 2 option, I'll say that if Kevin Martin was a #1 scoring option in his prime, then Korver most definitely can be a #2 if not a #1. Martin basically did the same things Korver does - run through screens find the 3PT line and fire at all - except that Korver actually passes out of it a bit, plays better D, and (in this biased person's opinion) is a better shooter.

As far as the AS game, we'll see. I think he's gotten a lot of love over the off-season and the invite to the USA team tryouts has further elevated his stock. Not saying he's a shoo-in or anything, but I definitely see him on the short list and as atlantabbq points out, that short list is even shorter with Beal out. It won't take many stumbles for Kyle to get in - if he needed any at all...

When I read the original post, the first thought through my mind was Kevin martin. A guy I believe could also be equally productive in our system. Then I remembered that K Martin's teams have never accomplished anything and he's spent most (all?) of his career as a top option on losing teams.

K Korver is the best 3rd option in the NBA. But we've seen him get silenced when teams begin to focus their defense on denying him the ball and cutting off the three point line.

Prime Kevin Martin is being criminally underrated in this thread, when offensively he was basically James Harden without the passing.

I mean I love Korver and he's an excellent role player but he's the 4th option in our offense which is a far, FAR cry from being the #1 option. He also relies on other people to create for him, which is something that very few #2 options require, much less #1s.

Wow!!! I always thought I am one of the biggest Korver fan. But I am not even close! :D

Korver for all-star game? Can't see this...

Korver best 3rd option in NBA? :D You mean better then... Let's say Nene or Pierce, Love or Irving, who the hell is 3rd on Spurs (Manu, Duncan, Leonard)?

After five games, Korver is at 17ppg, shooting .500FG%. The only SG in the east that are putting up 20ppg is Joe Johnson, Wade, DeRozan, and Butler, but only Butler and Korver are shooting .500FG%.

Its good to see Korver finally take over some games. He is on pace, like I said, if he can get 18ppg or better by all star break, he has a shot.

One thing missing this year, it feels like the Hawks and Korver are not looking for fast break or transition 3s. That use to be a big weapon for Korver the last two years. I don't know if it has something to do with Budz or Teague, but I think the Hawks should look more for transitions 3s on the fast break, especially to get Korver going.

do you understand that there is no PG/SG slot in the all star game? its a guard slot so he will be competing with the PGs for a spot also.

2 starter guards voted in by fans.
2 back ups guards voted in by coaches
then 3 reserve spots voted in by coaches that can be either guard or forward

Who said that Korver is going to get the STARTING all star spot????? Reserves are voted in by the COACHES.

What the hell are you talking about. I was just showing you all the guard slots in the all star game so you can calculate korvers chance of making the all star game. The point of me including 2 starter guard spots was not because I think he will make it in as a starter, it was to show you how difficult it would be for korver to make the all star team because of the limited amount of potential slots he can make.

the point of my post was to let you know that there is no PG/SG its a "guard" spot so point guards like john wall, and kyle lowry can nab his spot which makes it very difficult for korver to get in, so If you want to talk about korver chances to make the all star team you gotta compare his production to pgs too.

Their is no way the coaches are going to put 4 PGs on one all star team. Its also rare that an eastern all star team has 3 PGs. I think it has only happen once in the last ten years.

I think DeRozan will get it, but I hope Korver makes it over DeRozan. That would be cool. I don't watch a lot of Korver after he left Phily. I saw him when he played with Iverson and he was strictly a Steve Kerr catch and shoot guy with the Sixers, but I was surprised to see him take over a game like that, maybe that is a new part to his game

Let's not forget what Joe Johnson is doing up in Brooklyn. It's very likely he gets one of those ALL Star nods for his eighth AS Selection in the last nine years.

KK has his work cut out for him.

Sidenote: Do you guys believe JJ "single-handedly influences his team's playoffs chances"?
Specifically, has helped BRK become a playoff team after a decade as a doormat team?
Did he help ATL become a playoff team after a decade as a doormat team?

Didn't think he'd still be the leading scorer... Jeff's right behind him though.

Korver is underrated but I doubt he would even get in as a reserve, not because of his talent but just because it's going to be hard for more than one Hawk to make it. If Teague keeps it up, he may the lone guard representing the Hawks

Ya Korver put up points against the Jazz. Ya, he had great shooting. Ya, he was efficient, but what really impressed me the most is his increased aggressiveness this year. You get the feeling when the team is down, he calls his now number or even tries to take over games like he did against the Knicks.

I disagree, because i'm expecting the Hawks to finish #2 in the east, competing for #1, at least top 4, with home court advantage in the first round.

If the Hawks end up being #2 in the east, they will have to give two all star spots to the Hawks, just like when Joe and Horford got it.
