I don't agree with that sentiment. Not with a new system, new coach and injured players. I think this season above all else should be judged in increments (15 or 20 games at a time) just to look for progression, learning and growth...You don't throw away the season because of a bad start and you don't shift into win now mode because the team gets hot and the East is weak either. It's a building block year.

I would agree with this but close to 80% of this roster wont be on the team next year.

Building block for what, Melo in the system ok maybe I see that.

Building block for what, Fisher learning to coach, maybe a little (but coaching these misfits).

Look at the guys getting minutes this year.

Larkin (we didn't extend)
Dalembert (won't be here next year)
Acy (maybe be back for the minimum)
Jason Smith (won't be back)
Amare (wont be back)
JR (wont be back)
Shumpert (maybe but he might price himself out)
THjr (maybe)
Bargnani (wont be back)
Calderon (hurt - probably be back)
Pablo (might be back)

Early and the greek freeks older broth probably are two players that will be back and one doesn't get run and the other isn't even on the roster.

Who do you want to see develop? Who do you want to see grow. JR and his 30 minutes a night?

Amare and his 25 minutes. Dally in his 20 minutes?

These guys aren't growing they are just playing for another contract on another team. Melo is building a report with any of these guys because they all will be gone, some by the trade deadline.

This year is a holding period. I would prefer to see Cole Aldrich and Cleanthony Early more as well as even Tim Hardaway (maybe build up trade value) just so that we can see if they have a future with this team or.

Everyone else can go to ****

If the goal of this season is to make progress then one thing that needs monitoring is our players' deeply entrenched habit of jacking up 3's whenever they're "feeling it," regardless of how much time is left on the shot clock or how much the shot is contested (the more the better, right JR?). It's early but I don't see any progress on that front, and it's hard to expect any progress if we're still relying on JR as one of our main pieces.

JR should have kept heading to the basket for a closer shot.. bad decision by him and Fisher.

I still have hope.. remember Jason Kidd's coaching start last season and how well they turned it around?

Should be 5-0.
But it wont be.

I see it 2-3. If Calderon doesn't return, maybe even 1-4.

building block year for who?

so I can see JR Stiff and Jason Smith jack up 28 shots last night.

Both these dud's wont even be on the team next year (maybe not even by January).

what exactly are we building, because through the first 10 games I don't see any building. I just see players that wont be on the roster next year.

Combine that with not even attempting to extend Shump who is not playing himself into a $10m+ a year contract, and I'm starting to have doubts about whether Phil is cut out for this.

Agree. Trade him for ANYTHING that wont hurt the cap next season.
He is the problem. Get him off the team.

yeah im seeing more and more recently that he is super quick but his height and skill set just might not be able to stick in the NBA.

bigger guards take him to the hole and finish easily over him because he is short. And he really struggles to finish around the basket because he is so short.

He plays hard I will give him that, but I think made the right call not clock up 1.7 million in him.

He is only good for 5-10 minute spurts to guard the small and quick guards. Other then that, he is not an NBA caliber PG and not having Calderon or another average PG is killing this team right now.

But Larkin fights through screens and goes north and south on offense. These are immensely valuable skills, as evidenced by the fact that almost nobody on our team does them and we suck.

He gets KILLED by the bigger guards and is not a good offensive player.

Good shooter, great passer, good rebounder, great leaper with a running start. Weak inside on both ends but still gaining weight (went from 235 to 250 in a year and a half). Reminds me of a taller Al Horford.

Muiday is a 6-5 PG. His dad is 6-10 and his older brother is 6-8 so he might not be done. He was close to playing at SMU under Larry Brown (I wanted it to happen) but he went to China instead. Outplayed Stephen in his first game and just posted a 22/11/13 triple double his last game. He's averaging 19/7/7 in 5 games so far this season.

Very impressed with Towns passing ability. He's got it. High IQ too. Not so sure about his inside game. Surprising nice touch from outside.

Hey guys, wanted to let you know that I e-mailed Phil this video:

For a backup PG making $1.7m, the fact that he makes his open 3's and drives as soon as he catches it is enough. His ability to make quick decisions cannot be underestimated. Look at how the INABILITY to do that turns JR-- a guy who can basically do everything on offense-- into a net negative on offense. The way certain guys just love to hold the ball and jab step KILLS us. Absolutely KILLS us.
