If the draft were held today....

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Wed Nov 12, 2014 8:06 pm

If the draft were held today, the Pistons would get the #8 pick. Sounds familiar.

I was really hoping this is the year we make the playoffs. Not sure if I can handle another losing season and waiting for ping pong balls to bounce our way. Maybe it will take a bit longer for SVGs wisdom to sink in.

Thanks just needed to vent :-)

way too early in the season to talk draft. i expect a significant trade (Smith) to be made within the next couple months that will have us magically playing better ball...

Like DCintheD mentioned, it's way too early to be talking about the lottery/draft.

Maybe I'm crazy but i'm seeing improvement in a few areas as the season's gone on, so I imagine that would continue if SVG has more time with the team.

Playing better ball or just better long term fits?

I hope we either bomb hard enough to draft Kelly Oubre, or some of other stud SF prospect that emerges over the course of the NCAA season. Or, we make the post-season.

None of this mid- to late-lottery team trash.

mid- to late-lottery team trash is where the Pistons have been for the past 5 or 6 years :)

I'm with you man, but I think that's wishful thinking. I bet we end up right around where we've been unfortunately.

Looking at the start of the season and how other teams are playing as well, I think 8th worst is about right unfortunately. There is maybe two teams I'd put us down for sure wins against.

Yeah, I agree 100%... either we need to take that step forward or we need to totally collapse and get that top3-5ish pick. Not another 8-12 selection . We desperately need a SF who can create his own shot off the perimeter. I don't know anything about a lot of the guys mentioned so far, but I'll be watching out for that type of guy on the side this NCAA season.

Exactly. And, we're still a trash team.

We are a treadmill team, just haven't topped out at the Hawks treadmill level. I hear the "I just want to make the playoffs crowd" and it's been too long now, but at the same time we've never committed to a plan to actually build the team. SVG appears to have more of a plan than Joe did for the latter part of his run, but I worry Stan's pride won't allow us to do what needs to be done, which is rip it down to the bolts (aka Drummond & KCP) land an actual perimeter playmaker in the draft and then worry about putting the complementary pieces in.

Showcase Jennings and Monroe, trade them as soon as they establish trade value that'll give us 1st/young talent and then lose while running everything through Drummond & KCP. We can either have our pride, draft 7-9th every single year and continue to puff our chests about our past while banging our head against the wall, or we can actually join the race to the bottom and land the player that will pull us out of this.

7-9 range picks - Monroe, Knight, Dre, KCP. All look like good young players (Dre looks like the drizzling **** right now, but has the highest ceiling), it's not those range picks that suck, it's the veterans brought in around them by Dumars that suck.

Don't sleep on drafting a PF or PF/Ce as Moose is long gone. But it's probably easier to sign a FA PF than it is to sign a legit create-your-own-shot SF, so we should go for the latter in the draft.

Sure I'll bump this after tonight's game...

And now we are in a three way tie for third pick (actually third number of ping pong balls). And I would expect #2 Oklahoma to move up considerably when they get healthy. My Ron Jeremy sig is soon going to be replaced by ping pong balls...

I might take Jahlil Okafor first overall if Dre continues to struggle. Also I'd look to trade first overall in order to move Josh Smith off the team - ie #1 overall and Smith for #3 or even #4 overall (Towns/Oubre/Winslow etc)

Okafor is going to be a 20ppg big very early in his career. Hes just to good in the post already. He could very well be another Tim Duncan type of player. Hes definitely the best prospect in the draft and I wouldnt pass him up. It would make one of either him or Dre one of the best trade assets in the league though seeing as they are both true centers.
