Hawks fan here,
I have a few questions about Kawhi..
Do you guys think there is any chance at all that Kawhi could become "The James Harden" situation all over again? Unless San Antonio can work there magic where t hey get guys to sign for less (which idk how they continue to do) I'm like 95% positive Kawhi is going to get the max.
Anyways, I know the Hawks would have serious interest in him if Spurs don't want to give him the max. Coach Bud is the guy that convinced Pop to take a chance on Kawhi in the first place. Is there any pieces on the Hawks roster that would even get the trade talks for Kawhi started?

Re: Question about Kawhi Leonard
Nah, the Harden situation was really different. OKC had 2 young superstars signed for the MAX + a young defensive anchor with a 50m contract. Giving Harden the max would mean luxury tax for several years. Presti traded him because the owner did not want to pay the tax.
If Timmy and Manu retire after this season, SA will have plenty of cap space to work with. They have no reason to sign Leonard to a max contract without a discount. It's much better to keep the flexibility and the cap space that they will have next season and that includes Leonard with his QO offer counting against the cap.
If someone offers a Klay Thompson type of contract, SA simply matches it. You don't let go a Finals MVP because you feel that he is 2/3m/year overpaid.
Kawhi will be in San Antonio for a long time.

Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

Re: Question about Kawhi Leonard
Don't see it happening. Like fraktony said we have cap flexibilty going forward and an owner that's willing to pay the tax for a year or two.
Kawhi wants to be a Spur for life and so does the team.

Re: Question about Kawhi Leonard
the Spurs are just gonna use their 10+m in cap space on a good player, then sign Leonard for his max (what 16m??) & continue to be great, of course. Cause it's the spurs duh.

I really hope this summer we finally lure some bigger names to join us. Its gotten to a point where i give up about wanting someone that actually worth 10 mil (borderline allstars) to join.
We always seem to be in that almost came territory for players. Like when karl malone said he wouldve chose the spurs instead of lakers if spurs lost. He didnt want to be seen as bandwagoners. We were champions. Or like when we almost got jason kidd. Or this year when we almost got pau gasol.
But then when we re not champions, still nobody comes.

Marc Gasol or Wes Matthews. I'd be sooo happy if we could sign one of those guys.
