Trestman Replacements
Sal Pal of ESPN said that if the Bears continue to struggle that Trestman will be on thin ice at the end of the season. This probably guarantees his termination since we're most likely going to allow a major amount of points against the Cowboys, Saints, and the Lions twice. Plus, Peterson could be back for at least one game against us, were he'd most likely destroy us. Now for suggestions.
1. Rex Ryan: His defensive resume speaks for himself. He'd actually use Forte. He'd surely be able to bring in some of his former defensive studs (hopefully Revis). Plus there's this little curve-ball, trade Cutler for picks and we bring in Sanchez.
2. John Harbaugh: He has a history with the Bears so I think we'd be his number one NFL option. He'd use Forte and would have an offense that would protect Cutler from himself. The only problem is that the Michigan job will most likely also be open.
3. Darrell Bevell: He's had a very successful run game with Lynch. With Forte's catching ability he could evolve that aspect even more. He has had some success in the pass game with an offense full of second string WRs. Cutler has the athletism to run the offense but Bevell likes to get cute sometimes so that could work against Cutler.
4. Todd Bowles: He has had major success with the Cardinals as the DC even with all their injuries. The one problem that I have is that I don't know is he can coach a 4-3. I'm sure he can but I'm not 100%. If I knew he could or we had more 3-4 players he'd be number 3 on my list.
5. Teryl Austin: I'm going to throw in a brag and say that I called the Lions' defensive dominance. Before becoming the Lions DC he was the Ravens DBs coach when they we're good.
6. Jack Del Rio: Was a good HC in Jacksonville and has coached up a pretty good defense in Denver. Plus he held down the fort with Fox had to have heart surgery.
7. Kyle Shanahan: His system has worked with guys not named RGIII, especially this year. His system is also the system Cutler made the pro-bowl in.
8. Kevin Coyle: The Dolphins defense was able to impose it's will many times this season. They are one of the most stacked defensive units, however, so it could take until we have talent on the defense before we see his impact on it.
P.s,
Pal Sal said that he expects major changes to happen even if Trestman stays. I think its safe to say that means Tucker.

I like to also consider Oregon's HC or Philly's OC because they would both bring in Chip Kelly's system. My concern would be that a big reason the Eagles have so much success on offense is because of Kelly's amazing play-calling, which those guys might not bring.

Re: Trestman Replacements
I think you mean Jim Harbaugh(40 whiners), not John (Ravens HC).
Don't forget to add John Gruden and Brian Kelly from N.D.

I always get their names mixed up. I think there was a report saying Gruden would only come out of retirement for the Raiders. Idk how I forgot about Kelly. He's one of the best play callers in football and he'd actually hold cutler accountable for his turnovers

Re: Trestman Replacements
I think we'll keep Trestman. We should be targeting head coaches that will be fired, who were at one time great defensive coordinators to take over Tucker's job.
Rex Ryan
Mike Smith
Maybe even Lovie

If Harbaugh gets the hook in San Fran... what about Vic Fangio? I know I have been vocal about Jim Leavitt the LB coach (still think he'd be terrific and I'm sure that he and Trestman know each other well from the college football coaching circuit in Florida)... but if Fangio is looking for a gig we may be the perfect place for him. He would have all of the cred in the world and do you know what is just as common nowadays as the Packers beating the Bears in the regular season? The 49ers beating the Packers in the playoffs!
Of course... I would be over the moon if we took a flyer on a guy like Wade Phillips as well for DC.

I think Fangio is primed for a HC job

Re: Trestman Replacements
Bowles will most likely still become a HC but he'll be more expensive and he'll basically be able to go to good teams instead of starting with a bad one (49ers?). Fangio would be a great option as well.

Re: Trestman Replacements
My preferred Trestman replacements:
John Clayton
Curt Menefee
Frank Caliendo as John Madden
Al Pacino as the coach in Any Given Sunday
Frank Caliendo as himself
Those are just a few people off the top of my head that would make better coaches than Marc Trestman.

Re: Trestman Replacements
I'm of the opinion that Trestman is not the problem...
I think the Bears have two big problems:
1. Jay Cutler's not the QB the Bears need. They would have been better off letting Cutler walk or trading him.
2. The defense is a mess.
For #2, I say fire Tucker, then bring in Rex Ryan, and tell Rex, "Implement the 46" and get him the players.
For #1, try to trade Cutler, and get a young QB like Brett Hundley to take the reins.

Ffs the 46 is not a base defense in the NFL in 2014.
Trestman is definitely a problem.

Re: Trestman Replacements
46 defense???
Didn't you also want us to trade Paea for a first round pick plus other picks? You're senile dude. And why would we trade our best DT whom we will probably be able to sign for a bargain?

You have to look at those records in context.
Lovie and Ditka were handed crap over-all rosters and in their second year, improved the team.
Trestman was handed a talented team and has regressed his 2nd year.

Re: Trestman Replacements
Rex Ryan is going to get fired from the Jets, and he would be a lot of fun here as head coach in Chicago. Trestman seems smart at life (lawyer, commodity trader, etc) and dumb at football. I would rather have a coach that seems smart at football and dumb at life (R Ryan).
I don't think the league is trending towards defensive guys as head coaches, but you simply can't let the Rodgers and Bradys of the world get whatever look they want against you. I have had enough with Lovie's Cover 2 and Mel Tucker's cover no one. The pass rush is just too easy to spot, and there are only so many different looks you can give in coverage with that personnel. I would love to see a Rex Ryan defense come in and stuff the run and blitz the passer in unpredictable formations. I actually am really impressed with the three safety base package that Rob Ryan runs in NO. I think in a pass heavy league, that is an exciting personnel grouping (provided you have a hard hitting safety that can cover).
Last year with Trestman was a pleasant surprise. But he has not gotten through to Cutler, and his lockerroom walks all over him (Lance's restaurant opening, Marshall hosting the weekly Showtime show, etc).
