What will it take to get Anthony Davis?
I say forget Rondo and Kevin Love, the guy who Mitch should be trying to acquire is Anthony Davis. He's young, and quickly blossoming into a superstar. What does Mitch need to do to make this happen? He's currently playing for a small market team that probably won't make the playoffs, next year the Pelicans have a team option on him, and then he can be a restricted FA the following year.
I'm sure he'd rather play in LA, as he would be coming in just as Kobe is retiring, and he would step right into that next Lakers franchise player role we thought Dwight Coward was going to fill. so if he told the Pelicans he was going to leave as a free agent, would they be willing to trade him this offseason so they could get more value for him?
Perhaps either Julius Randle or the Lakers 1st round pick this year plus Jordan Hill's expiring contract and maybe another future first?

What if he doesn't want to stay in New Orleans. If he doesn't sign those extensions, he can become an unrestricted FA after two more seasons. If the Pelicans know they are going to lose him, wouldn't it make more sense to trade him earlier when he has more value?

No matter how bad he may want to come to LA, it just doesn't make any sense for him to turn down those extensions NO will offer him.
Anything can happen...just ask Paul George (he wisely signed his extension prior to getting hurt this summer).

We'd have to trade all of our revenue for the next 10 years. We have no basketball assets to trade for what is likely the best asset in the sport value wise.

Everyone seems so down on the Lakers right now. We have a rich history of bringing superstars to LA, and superstars working and forcing their way to LA, Kareem, Magic, Shaq, Kobe, Gasol, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard (although I use the term superstar lightly with him) and we didn't need boatloads of assets to land those guys. Why all of the sudden is the sky falling and no one wants to come to LA anymore?
This used to be the premiere destination for NBA talent, the Yankees of the west coast. Just because we've had a down year doesn't mean that we aren't still the Lakers. The honor and privilege of playing for and being a star player for the NBA's most storied franchise should still carry some weight with players.

I think we could end up with Rondo/Rose/Love before we ended up with AD.

I'd be skeptical of Rose. He doesn't seem like his head is really into the game. I like Rondo and Love, but not sure if they make us championship contenders. Maybe substitute Westbrook for Rose and play him off the ball with Rondo at the PG. Love can stretch the floor, but we would still Need an AD type to guard the paint.
Maybe we could get Jordan from the Clippers or Asik from New Orleans to fill that role, or maybe find a guy in the draft, but I worry we will lose our pick to Phoenix once the team gets back on track this year, and we finish outside of the top 5.

Re: What will it take to get Anthony Davis?
Last season I began believing that Anthony Davis would become the best player in the league within 3 to 5 years. So far I think hes on pace to surpass Lebron. The only way you send up with a guy like that is if he hits restricted free agency because his team hasn't surrounded him with the right players to win.

That's the only reason we could possibly get him... If his head isn't in the game, Chicago might start looking for a way to dump that salary.

I guess that makes sense. Maybe if it could be done for Jordan Hill and Nash's expiring it would be low risk as far as what we give up, but how would that affect our cap space moving forward when it comes to making a run at guys like Rondo, Love, Westbrook, or Durant when they hit free agency?

We'd have to have assurances about his health and desire first, but it would destroy whatever flexibility we had... That's why we'd need Rondo and Love in place too... It would be a pure, win-now, swing for the fences move for us.

I have a better chance of making it to the Lakers then Anthony Davis.
...And I have no chance of making the Lakers roster.
