Re: Monroe Officially Signs QO
Monroe possibly threw tens of millions out the window. He had guaranteed money before his DUI blast then signs for QO knowing that he will be playing behind Drummond AND Josh Smith both of whom are better than him. Monroe will probably never recoup the money he just lost.

The DUI had nothing to do with anything contract-wise.

Got bored, got curious about who said what in this thread and had to go find it. Thought it deserved a bump. I'm especially thrilled at all those that actually advocated for Smith. Lol

Yep, that's a good reason to start an inferior player.

Which is why folks shouldn't be to giddy about Monroe's performance or future here.

We ain't winning no title this season. Even with Monroe starting we're in the bottom third of the league. So Monroe develops at the expense of Dre/building chemistry within the players who will be here for the long haul...

LOL, I see people are doubling down on faulty logic and BS.
Players hate losing, and if they don't, they will never be successful in the NBA. The idea that we should bench Monroe has always been ludicrous and unrealistic and would rub all the guys on the team the wrong way.

Re: Monroe Officially Signs QO
By starting players that don't deserve to be starting, SVG is setting himself up for a real mess in the locker room. If he's going to bench Monroe because of his temporary status as a member of the Pistons, other players will have issues.
This team has had some serious issues within the locker room in past seasons, and while most of those guys are gone, we aren't that far removed. Do you think Drummond or Pope want to play for a coach that could bench them when it comes down to them choosing to extend or sign a QO? I'd be asking to be traded if I was even considering the QO if I knew that was a possibility.
Drummond's development isn't being hindered by Monroe. Drummond's development will only be hindered by one person, and that's Andre Drummond.
The whole idea of "building chemistry" is a load of BS. Maybe people haven't noticed, but Josh Smith doesn't fit on this team. He doesn't fit next to Drummond. And he's not going to be here beyond his current contract, if he makes it that far. Based on that logic, we should be starting Dinwiddie, KCP, Singler, Mitchell and Drummond, because those are the only players that have a chance at being around long term. If anything, we should be putting all of our chips in the Monroe basket and pray that he comes back.
I think having both Smith and Monroe splitting time next to Drummond is actually a HUGE plus for Drummond. He's learning how to operate with one guy who plays close to the basket, and at the same time, learning to play alongside one that stretches the floor more (albeit not well). We could go either direction and Drummond will have some experience with that type of player. It's honestly a win-win right now because we don't know what we're going to have at the 4 long term, but we do know we'll have Drummond.

Re: Monroe Officially Signs QO
I've never felt that Monroe ever made stupid plays at the expense of the team or refused to change an aspect of his game to accommodate the team after it's been proven to be ineffective, like Josh Smith has. Sucks that he's probably leaving at the end of this year.
Smith being here for the next 2 years should have no relevance on whether or not we start Monroe. Starting Monroe would be the best thing to do for our team. (And as we know, the 3 big lineup is garbage) Not sure about all of you but I'm not content with losing and throwing away seasons forever.

You're right, we should be bowing down thanking the basketball gods we have 2 more years of THIS Josh Smith. That's a way better reason to be happy. Just screw appreciating someone that's actually playing well for team you're rooting for.

Just curious, what was your opinion of Charlie V while he was here?

Re: Monroe Officially Signs QO
If the best players should start, Monroe and Smith should both be starting over Dre in most matchups.
