Worth a very small contract. Just don't be surprised when/if it doesn't work out. At 26 though, its still worth it.

Ron Artest, Andrea Bargnani, and Tyrus Thomas...nice offseason. Can't see rabid Knick fans getting upset with this offseason.

Thanks for the replies guys. Its a little worrisome that his athletic ability has seemingly fallen off though, considering that was his calling card. Do you think he could recover it a little bit? Or has he just permanently lost his hops? Weird how he hasnt added any weight since he came into the league. He actually looks skinnier now than he used to be. Boy needs some food!

Ha and yea chrbal Artest, Bargs, and Tyrus isnt some game changing offseason but I guess considering the lack of funds/assets the Knicks have it would be alright. Hoping we get another big and guard too. Keep a lookout for CJ Leslie, Jeremy Tyler, and Toure Murry today as they could also make the team.

He's worth a minimum contract maybe slightly more. I think that much is certain. He still has time to turn it around as he's just 26 and was halfway decent about 2-3 years ago.

He showed off a little more range at the end of the season, but is still rail thin, leading me to believe he's trying to become a small forward rather than the power forward. I really have no idea what happened to him, but the lockout robbed him of his athleticism, his weight (he was clearly below 200 pounds after the lockout- made DJ Augustin look like Shaq) and whatever little game he actually had. To this day I have no idea how he fell off so quickly. I always knew the contract was going to be terrible, but I always thought he'd be at least a 15-minute-a-night player.

That being said, he's 26 with time to turn around. He's a pretty passive player who doesn't seem to care on the court much but maybe if he realizes that his career could be on its last legs, he'll make an effort to turn it around. If he can get back to his 2008-11 self, he's clearly worth a mini-MLE contract. At least he was a good shot blocker, was able to get steals, could hit the occasional jumper, and be an average rebounder. That's a 10-15-minute rotation player on any team. If he can bulk up and work on his game some, I really think he can still be that guy. Don't expect it though, you'll likely be disappointed.

there is no consistency with tyrus. if you give him 10 minutes of game time he will make 2 fantastic hustle plays and at least two idiotic plays. he settles for his mid range jump shot too quickly because he is over-confident in his abilities. he turns the ball over too often, usually trying to make a spectacular play. he doesnt have the size, weight or desire to play in the paint on offense and has no go-to move inside of 5 feet. as others have mentioned he doesnt have the burst he once had meaning his blocks are down and dunks are down. he doesnt have the sped guard sfs or the bulk to defend in the paint. while his teammates appear to love him, he has seemingly had bad relationships with every coach so far. oh yeah, his wife got arrested for trying to run over a cop after she stole someone's purse at as nightclub, so he has that going for him as well. he basically plays like a tornado, that gives you some good and some bad. probably needs to be on a vet team with strong leadership and to have a clearly defined role.

That's one hell of a weak tornado. His good plays aren't good enough to change a game, and his bad plays aren't necessarily bad enough to wreck a game.

That all being said, he has the highest upside of the remaining 4/5s on the free agent market. And he'll cost among the least.

Tyrus reportedly has worked out for Memphis, now will visit the Lakers. Already said my two cents on him at the Lakers board.

Rarely do I really dislike any NBA player, but he seriously is one of my all-time least favorites.

I was wondering the other day what happened to this guy......

Just yesterday I was telling one of my friends Paul Silas stories (him calling Ira Newble a "hip hop mfer", coming up with the acronym "see you next tuesday" for Boozer, him punking Tyrus) and he asked me the same thing - where's Tyrus. Coincidental timing.

As far as ex-Bobcats go I still rank May over Thomas on my least favourite list.

A bit before my time in Horncats fandom but I can sense that I wouldn't have liked him either.

Article on Tyrus's own thoughts about being out of the league:

I'm too nice of a guy. Read this and started to feel bad about him, despite all the hate I've had inside of me aimed at him.

yeah I read an article on him as well, he sorta won me over when he talked about the Silas incident. saying he considers Silas like family and regrets the media finding out about it.

I'm convinced that "hip hop mfer" is the best NBA-related insult ever.

That nerve condition makes a lot of sense. I thought he was on drugs his last year here with how weak he had gotten

It sounds like TT is well on his way to playing for somebody in the league.
