This true?
Love having the player but pessimistic on a 5 year deal and a likely large overpayment.

I completely attribute this to your sneaky reverse psychology. Well done!

Wow. Overpayment for sure, but this is the kind of guy I wanted to see on the Jays. A proven catcher who appears to have some leadership qualities. Hope this really pans out.

Lol, I'm not apologizing to AA. We finally sign a legit FA for the first time in nearly a decade and that's supposed to somehow make up for the **** we've put up with? I'm glad they finally decided to shell out some cash, now keep it going or it's just 2012 all over again.

Finally they do something positive, to make next season possibly relevant, so please let's not go heavy on the overpayment issue. Romero, Reyes and Buerhle will be off the books by the time the over payment thing becomes a discussion, and frankly, it's not our money. TV revenues keep on rising, and there is no way on God's green earth that Rogers won't get every penny back leveraging the content across a gazillion channels and platforms. If this isn't a swap of Martin for Melky, I'll be very laudatory towards the regime.

With money going up across major league baseball because of new TV deals, we have to keep "overpayment" in perspective. It's a shifting target, and four or five years from now, deals signed this winter may look less of an overpayment in the context of 2019-20

that's the market for martin, not an overpayment. Actually a good chance we'll come out on top, catcher defence and framing ages really well, and Martin is the best of the best

If we're going to rip on them as much as we do, then we gotta give em credit when they come through with a signing like this.

Good deal, little overpayment on term and years but if you're serious about winning this year then you gotta do it. Plus he brings an attitude and approach that his team needs.

i just realized for the first time in a long long time i'm gonna be watching a complete catcher, someone that can hit, someone that will block pitches and someone that will frame pitches, holy ****, that has me excited!

Martin had a higher WAR than anyone on the team last year except Bautista, and that's without factoring pitch framing. Overpayment in years? Absolutely. But we just got an impact player, even when he regresses offensively.

This signing is going to improve the team more than any other signing or trade they realistically could have made. Kudos to AA for recognizing this, and to Rogers for green lighting it.

The defensive improvement is interesting. Now we have to see what they do with Navarro, who can be a pricey backup (Thole goes, or Dickey and Thole go, whatever) or they get some value for Navarro in a deal.
