Well Lakers didn't have Kobe last year, and had a worse coach, and looked a lot better than they do this season.

this isn't the same team as last year and if you gona use that condition then the getting worse part should be put on Scott not Kobe.

Well it's on one of the two, Scott was supposed to be a clear upgrade of 'Antoni, a guy who was supposed to stress defensive principles.

For all intents and purposes, this should be an improved roster. Lin is an upgrade over Marshall, Boozer and Gasol should have been a lateral move. Gasol is probably a better player, but both guys should have benefited from a change of scenery. Kobe is an upgrade over Swaggy P.

If the team made all these upgrades, how did they get so bad? 'Antoni won 27 games with pretty similar looking team.

Maybe it is all on Byron, but something has got to give. We can't continue to just suck night after night and be the laughing stock of the league.

Bro, Kaman, Gasol, Meeks, Young (thus far), Farmar and the addition of moving back some of the guys we still have into the second unit where they belong is a MUCH bigger deal than you're making it out to be.

This year's team is much worse than last years just from depth alone.

Depends on what you get back. Naturally it would be defenders. If the Lakers get back something like Shumpert and Dalembert and pick it would be better short term and long term. Gasol would be nice. (he's averaging 2.5 blocks!) Hibbert?

But not happening unless Kobe wants out. That's rare for a guy like that.

Every team has a star player. There is no real alpha scorer beyond Kobe, it may turn into Young. I think the big men are a problem. No rim protector. There are no real post players either on the team, Kobe can play in the post but isn't much. There is a lot of focus on Kobe and then Lin, but I don't think they are the problem.

Kobe for Rose straight up makes too much sense for both teams. Chicago reunites Kobe and Pau + Noah + one of the best rosters in the league + 2nd best coach in the league in the easy East with the calculated risk that Chicago can win a title or 2 before Cleveland can figure it out. For the Lakers we get see Mamba get a shot at the title now which if he does leave it should be with Gasol and the Bulls. Obviously Rose is a lot younger than Kobe and Mitch's plan could works with Rose. But Rose is the T-Mac of this generation. Injury prone.

Personally I would like to see Kobe stay with LA. LA needs Okafor badly. A front court of Oak & Randle + Kobe would be amazing. If LA did that + added a max free agent then its game on. Lakers become instant contenders.

Problem is that pick is only top 5 protected. As evidenced by swag's return, we are not getting that pick. If Wes-4-points-per-game-Johnson was our only 3 then, ya, I would agree with your premise. But Swag is going to be putting up 15-20 per night. Which is going to lead to a lot of 1 point wins over the East. Maybe if he or Kobe goes down again, but that is our only hope.

I really hope Young doesn't mess up our pick like last year. I really wanted Embid. The pride of being a bottom team would hurt but do you know what hurts more? Being in the bottom 14 for year after year after year after year. Take the lumps and get it over as quick as possible. The plan can work.
