Thoughts on a post Dec 15 deal

Post#1 » by ThaFranchize84 » Tue Nov 18, 2014 2:40 pm

What is everyone's thoughts on this deal?

Miami trades Deng and Cole to Detroit

Detroit trades Smith and a first round pick to Atlanta

Atlanta trades Horford to Miami

Solves a few lineup issues for the teams

For us it gives up a taste of 2016 a little earlier

Horford
Bosh
Williams
Wade
Napier

Chalmers
McRoberts
Anderson
Granger
Ennis
Haslem

Call up Johnson or Birch
Brown
Hamilton

Best thing that happened to Atlanta was Josh Smith leaving. Why revisit that?

Stopped reading when you said Smith to Atlanta

WHY would they do that? Atlanta is better without him. Their whole team is doing well and actually have a real system these days.

The most I think we do is cut Brown, bring up Birch or even Johnson.

Or trade Cole and a 2nd rounder for something. Or just trade Cole for a 2nd rounder... I just don't think the Heat want to pay this dude more than what he is worth next season. OR for a big Center but... we do not have the assets.

Denver said every player (besides Lawson and Faried) are trade assets.... Heat might like some dudes on there, especially Mozgov. He is expensive though.

I'd love to grab Gary Harris from Denver, but I doubt he is on the trade block. If we could send Cole and a 2nd rounder for Harris would be an excellent move. The salary almost works.

Deng can be used as trade bait for a team that is wanting to shed salary, but apart from him Cole, Bazz & Ennis are the only assets we could part with that a rebuilding team might want. We're not going to give up Deng/McBob for rebuild players, so they need to be win-now players. Horford would be great, but no way Atlanta gifts him to us unless we give them real rebuilding pieces.

Denver ha some interesting assets: Gallo, Mozgov, & Afflalo cold help us now, but they aren't on long contracts (all 2 years left).

Deng is not going to be used as trade bait after we got him to take less money per year as well as less guaranteed since we only gave him a 2 year deal. I feel like at the very least he's been assured that he won't be traded.

Dru Smith very lucky he got that 500k this year. He should invest and manage a subway after all this-MettaWorldPanda

Riles has many tricks up his sleeve as always but he did call Deng as "one of the biggest signings in HEAT history" earlier this off-season so there's that

Could we receive a first round draft pick in exchange for Norris Cole? Could we find a team willing to make such a trade? I know we already have our first round draft pick for the year 2017 and if we own two picks, then we could be in a better position to negotiate with any team.

Ultra Atlanta sucking parallel universe in which Atlanta suck perpetually?

In other words, this universe 8-) but it won't happen because their biggest achievement in the past years was cutting ties with Josh Smith and they probably don't wanna undo it.

I think you could get a first round pick from the past that didn't work out though. You can also get a second round pick.

Cole is a decent player, fully capable of developing into a good player if well coached. He works hard and is ambitious. My issue with Cole isn't about his quality, but that it seems a sure thing that he is moving on as soon as possible for $$$. Rich Paul will see to that.

He has NBA experience for a few years now. People in other groups see him as a better player than some of the people here do.

No people, in no group, on earth or other planets, including Amazon tribespeople and Martians, don't think Norris Cole is worth a first round pick.

Cole worth 2 2nd round draft picks IMO.

I don't even think we can get a player for him. Maybe a 3rd string Center. What's funny is, some teams have real good 3rd string Centers who don't even play, yet we can't even scrape up one.

Birch though I believe is doing good in the DLeague right now...

That is so unfair I don't even know where to start. I guarantee you that when we play against Norris Cole you will differently.

So are Tyler Johnson and Larry Drew. <<=== Edit: Larry Drew actually played pretty poorly.

I think because Cole's contract expires in July we can only get a 2nd round draft pick or a high first round. The trick is to find the team that needs him.
