Borland making more plays in two weeks than Hawk has in his entire career.

McGinn wrote an article a few months ago talking about our draft and he mentioned hearing that Ted liked Borland enough that he called to move up about 10-12 spots in the 3rd round to draft him, but the cost was our 3rd and either a 5th or 6th rounder, i forget exactly. I think it was a 5th though. Ted passed and took Thorton.
Now if it was a 5th, we did draft Linsley and Abbrederis with our two 5th rounders. Losing out on Abbrederis to get Borland instead of Thorton would have been a fabulous end result. Linsley not as much. Tough call on who i'd rather have between Borland and Linsley.

I try not to think in hindsight. TT assigned a 3rd round grade to Borland and he was gone before we could pick.
Thornton could still turn into a decent player, and drafting Davante turned out pretty good for us. Can't get all the steals in the draft.

Yeah. I feel like one way or another Thompson crushed last offseason regardless.
Clinton-Dix looks like he's going to be a legit starter/potential star. Davante Adams has shown that he has plenty of talent. Linsley already looks like he's a lock to be our long-term starter at C.
Getting three starting caliber players out of the draft is pretty damn good... especially when you add in a signing like Peppers and another guy like Guion, who has been playing better as of late.
That isn't even accounting for the other guys we picked who could end up being contributers. Rodgers and Janis have shown flashes. Abberderis was apparently beloved by Rodgers before he got crippled, so maybe he becomes something too.

Yea, but if it had been the early 5th rounder, we may not have Limsley.
Like i said when i made that post, i think i'd rather have Borland than Limsley given we had Tretter already, but it's not a slam dunk call. Tretter has been hurt twice now and Linsley looks like he'll be the Packers starting center for a long time.

Said it before and I'll say it again. I think Borland is the next Zack Thomas. Guy just has an uncanny ability to be around the football at all times.

Ugh.
I think it would have to be the Linsley pick, as the Abby pick was a compensatory? It's possible he would've been gone by the Abby pick, as they were 15 away from each other.
Hindsight is 20/20, but damn. We were that close to Hawk being upgraded - something I'd been waiting years for.

Re: ATL: Week 11
That's the great unknown about any draft. Ted could have traded up for Borland and then another team picks Linsley before we get that shot with the Abbrederis 5th rounder. You just never know. Even with Borland, Ted could have thought there was a decent chance he'd drop to the Packers pick in the 3rd round without having to trade up.
On the bright side though this looks like it will be a nice draft class outside of the Thorton pick. Getting Linsley in the 5th was huge, especially if Tretter can develop as a quality swing guy to fill in at either guard spot along with as the backup center. Offensive line depth has been weak for years and we've been lucky so far this year on the line to not have any serious injuries.

Losing Barclay hurts if we were to lose either tackle.

Yeah... we lost our starting C for half of the year and our third tackle for the entire season. I'd say those are some pretty serious injuries.

How many teams though have had the same five starting lineman for every game so far as the Packers have had except for Bulaga missing one game? In fact, the team overall has been extremely fortunate on the injury front.
That said, obviously the Packers have been on the other side of that way to often, so it's about time they've had better luck with injuries. Hopefully that keeps up, but in the next six games that luck could easily reverse.
Injuries to me are mostly fluke from year to year for all NFL teams and it can play a big factor as to why some teams make or miss the playoffs. Advance in the playoffs or not.
