Pau: Lakers offer included a no trade clause

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Tue Nov 18, 2014 11:27 pm

The bulls were at staples last night taking on the clips. Pau was hurt and didn't play but he spoke to reporters pre game. One interesting thing he mentioned that they were taking about on the radio was that the lakers offered him a no trade clause in the contract he ultimately passed on.

Any thoughts?

If I remember correctly the reported offer was a two yr deal over 20 mil. This along with the kobe extension solidifes my belief that the lakers have no real plans to make any big moves this upcoming summer and are looking two yrs down the road.

wow thats very shocking the lakers would do that. it shows 2 things-

1. lakers are dedicated and take care of their players
2. pau really really really wanted to win right away

personally for pau, he made a fantastic choice of going to chicago. he's playing like he's back in his prime and has something to prove.

This just shows how delusional the front office is. Instead of trading the guy for assets they offer for him to hang around with a trade clause to book. This is after constantly having him in trade talks over the past 4 years...

The team would be so much better with him than Boozer. It's really unfortunate the injury to Randle.

I have no problem with him turning them down. I get it, they **** him over and brought him back into a **** up situation when the deal fell apart and he was back at media day shortly after. He took being benched, and everything else. I get the idea of I'm going to stick it to them, I always did, as I stick by the fact they should have dealt him as soon as the Paul deal fell apart for the rockets pieces of Martin, Scola, Dragic, and picks to go with Kobe, Fish, Metta, Barnes, Blake, and Bynum

Pau put himself in a place with a good coach and his favorite team growing up. In case people forgot when he demanded a trade out of Memphis, he wanted the bulls not us or anyone else.

I would have loved for Pau to retire here next to Kobe and as part of a threesome with Melo. I truly believe that's the only way he would have stayed, if we got Melo and maybe to a lesser degree Bosh.

Pau went to a better team. Can't blame him for that. Not to mention now he doesn't have to be constantly blamed by the media and fans when his team doesn't win.

exactly. he chose winning over money. plus come on now the guy was the lakers' scapegoat for the last 4 years when he was still here. which is funny because his stats year after year when he was here were pretty consistent. contrary to the popular belief that he was on a steep decline.

yeah he had just one year that wasn't great due to his plantar fasciitis, but then came back and played much better last year.

Pau obviously would have signed with the clause to be traded...

Pau was gonna leave no matter what the Lakers offered. It was his only way to stick it back at them for dangling him over the years in trade rumors and that's all they were. They only actually traded him one time, Stern made the situation uncomfortable after that. The team also offered him a 3yr deal too.

But I don't think the team is waiting for two years down the road, they can start adding a few pieces next summer.

I always knew the best way to keep Pau was to offer him an extension when they offered Kobe one and you could make an argument that Pau deserved it as much as Kobe. However I'm happy to see play for something more meaningful than an 8th seed at best towards his retirement. Watching him get pushed around by Griffin and Jordan 4 times a season was a painful experience for me. It was what he & Odom used to do to people like Boozer for all the good days.

Not that they'd be 10-1 or anything, but I wonder how the team would be right now if they had Pau and a healthy Nick Young all year.
