Richardson had 2.7 ypc behind the same o-line. His vision is unimpressive, saw him choose the wrong hole too often, not very elusive.

As a Cowboys fan, I know Bradshaw is a beast if healthy. I guess Richardson is insurance for Bradshaw's glass? And I guess this is worth a 1st round pick?

I have been outspoken in my displeasure with this trade, but u cant judge it on 1 game where Richardson had 2 days to prepare...which included traveling to Indy and to the West Coast.

The thing is though, he showed those same flaws all of last year, and in two games this year, too.

But you're right, it's only 1 game under unusual circumstances. Time will tell one way or the other.

I find it funny when people say never trade a first round pick for a running back, because you can get great running backs with late round picks. That's true for any position and any player. If your team needs that, then you do it. Should teams not trade a first rounder for Kirk Cousins, because Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round? There was 2 things the Colts weighed when making this trade; Do we need another running back? Do we think the running back we're getting is worth next years 1st round pick? Yes it's a gamble but only in the fact they could be picking #1 overall, next year.
I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying Michael Jordan

The Browns made a smart trade because they got a first round pick for a bust before the rest of the league figured out he was a bust.

Hes slow, has no vision, and can't block. In over 50% of his games he hasnt had a run over 8 yards. He cant make plays. He gets tackled easily and dances in the backfield.

I dont think this makes the Cleveland offense any worse this year.

They just traded an unproven running back for a first round pick and for the most part RB's in the 1st round are a thing of the past. The only way this bites them is if he becomes the next Peterson type back. He has the physical specs to be a great back and that is why Indy is taking a risk. I have no problem with Indy taking a risk but the odds are the first round pick will have more value than Richardson.

thats pretty hard to ignore and should factor into the discussion, no?

This is a commonly flawed way of thinking. The assets used to acquire Richardson are a sunk cost. They no longer matter. The only thing that Cleveland needed to decide before this trade was 'Is Trent Richardson worth a first rounder'. I think considering what hes shown in the NFL up to this point, the answer is clearly 'no, hes not worth a first rounder'. The Browns managed to get one for him. I think Richardson has been one of the problems with the offense the last year, not part of the solution. Hes been slow and unable to create anything. He can't block, which makes him taken out of lots of passing plays, even though receiving skills are probaby his main draw at this point. His vision and the way he dances in the backfield is terribad.

If you want to relook at the Browns taking Richardson third overall - yeah that was a terrible terrible terrible decision. He hasnt looked like more than a third round talent. Hes like the 7th best player on the Browns terrible offense.

An impressive 3 yards per carry today. The decision to draft him 3rd overall was awful, but it wasn't the current front office that made that decision. Getting a 1st round pick for a player that mediocre (and that's putting it kindly) is a steal for the new regime in Cleveland.

THANK YOU. Finally someone who understands economics and asset management. I was just about to post that too.

TRich with another mediocre game for the Colts yesterday, meanwhile the Browns are 2-0 since dealing him and "tanking" the season.

Related move: the Browns cut Montario Hardesty today. In their 2012 camp they were boasting TRich and Hardesty as the best 1-2 punch in the AFC.

Nice post by Roger Murdock above, well said.

So how do we feel about this now? Cleveland used the Indy pick and a 3rd to move up to 22 to select Manziel. Richardson has averaged 3.1 ypc with Indianapolis and has shown no ability to even be a quality #2 RB?

Even if Manziel is a bust they did a good job recognizing that Richardson was terrible getting a ton of value before other teams realized it too.

hes a good back. But seems hulky and herky jerky in his movements. I like his power, but his catching ability is what lost him some time against that runningback from new York that just got hurt. forgot his name. but Richardson is still a verypowerful back
