Reasons why Warren should be starting

Post#1 » by ToddTrontvet » Thu Nov 20, 2014 5:50 pm

1. Our system is fast break baskeball and we have 2 plodders at forward. Mook try's to run but he is way below average running the court for a small forward. One of TJ's strengths is taking off on the fast break and he is one of the best non flying fast break finishers in the game already. A perfect system fit!
2. He is a consistent rebounder. Mook is up and down. (a little projection )
3. Our stated plan is to keep a core together and learn and grow like the spurs. He clearly is going to be your best sf in the future and good enough already to play with the big boys. Let them become a starting 5 (with len) that grows together!
4. The gm can watch how the real starting 5 play together and how the real bench plays together. Thus he can access the needs for the future better. Contract extensions/trades.
5. TJ grows faster and contributes faster. Why is that important? He very possibly he is your best offensive player on the team and a key player in making a run at a title. I normaly would not recomend player development over team achievement. But when he is a key guy to make a title run, you see the big picture. Also I think despite his growing pains he quickly makes you a better team now.

Warren has earned an spot on the rotation, an small one, but he has minutes regularly at least. It is something that is new for him, because he is a rookie and he was injuried at the beginning of the season...so probably Hornacek has to see his production in the NBA before thinking about giving Warren a bigger rol on the team.
It is natural process, and we are not desperate enough to make big changes in our line up. If we were 2-10 we would make some moves and even trades, but right now our team is OK and we can see patiently if Warren deserves an starting spot over Marcus or Tucker.

Nice list. But he is not ready to be a starter on a playoff contending team.

Our best lineup will prove to be Dragic/Green/Warren/Markieff/Len in due time.

I agree with the exception of Green. While I am a big fan of Green, I think the best line-up will be Dragic, Bledsoe, Warren Markieff and Len - in due time.

If I Had it my way I would go with what gave us success last year individually.

Dragic/Green/Tucker/Morris/Len.

When dragic was the only ball handler he was efficient rarely missed ran the show.
Gerald went from a 12-13ppg guy to a 17ppg starter who can drop 30 on any night.
Tucker was perfect fit doesn't need ball just play defense, rebound shoot the open 3.
Frye now Morris stretches the floor on high screens for dragic.
Plumlee now Len is just a better player but when Bledsoe went down so did plum they have good chemistry together.

let's dragic do what he wants he's handling it he knows if he passes green/tucker will launch it.
Instead of kicking out to Bledsoe or IT who may make another move after the pass.

Bench MOB
Thomas/Bledsoe/Warren/Marcus/Plumlee

Small lineup but the speed would be a nightmare vs teams backups.
The spacing also helps Thomas maneuver in mid range game and opens up Bledsoe to the rim in which he has good chemistry with Plumlee.

Bledsoe will never come off the bench though.

A's over Royals. Lester and experience will prove that he's worth the trade.

Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.

Thank you both for saying in due time.

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

TJ Warren needs to earn his time as a bench player first. At times, you can see he looks lost on both offense and defense. We'll see how quickly he can adapt as a bench player but no way he should be starting right now.

Any lineup without Green/Thomas/Tolliver/Plumlee will be our best lineup.

Well I said Green because he's our "most reliable" 3-point threat. What I really meant is any three point gunner. Definitely would prefer someone else in that role. Someone that's not on our team, currently.

That's turrible. Afflalo isn't even better than Green and you are just giving IT away for free...

I wish Warren had played better in garbage time VS the 76ers. :/

One thing I took away from this game - if you want to play your young guys in garbage time to develop, DO NOT play them with Thomas, because they won't even touch the ball.

I also noticed that every time down the court they had him set up on the other side of where anything was happening. It almost looked like they were hiding him. It was dumb.

And to add to that, they should try to maximize any playing time he has with our "future"--Dragic, EB, Kieff, and Len. And actually, I would actually argue that maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to start Warren, but pull him out after a short amount of time, dependent upon how he is fairing. Let him get some burn against opposing starters, while playing with our starters. And if he's clearly overwhelmed, pull him early. If not, let him stay in for a full rotation. surely, he can't play poor enough to dig us in a hole we can't get out of, by just being in a few short minutes, right?

Bledsoe will never come off the bench though.

Actually that was not the best line-up last year. The Suns record was best when Dragic and Bledsoe both started and Frye was in the starting line-up. That cannot be recreated for obvious reasons.

Bledsoe missed half a season.
Jeff last two games actually has went to dragic/green/tucker/Morris/Len for brief moments.

It's when dragic is at his best IMO.
