Just wanted to drop in and say how much I like this guy. He's been playing fantastic and is actually efficient! (very rare for this draft class, apparently) Enjoyed watching him toy around with D-Will.

Shabazz last 5 games is averaging 12ppg and shot 50% from 3! is 12-24 last 5 games. He is 40% for the season from 3 so far.

He is looking for his shot more, mostly on the 3 point line. Looks comfortable too

Has to calm down a bit, got bad turn overs sometimes, but thats where his rookie side comes out

It was just a matter of time before he started nailing shots, kid is a good shooter, maybe even very good.

I'm loving how he starts getting more aggressive, looking to score more. That's what we need.

Next step is to work on reducing turnovers.

I looked up his 3 point shooting percentage in college, and man I knew he was good but this is really good

1st year FG 37% , 32.6% from 3 46-141
2nd year FG38.9% 35.5% from 3 59-166
3rd year FG 44.1% 39.8% from 3 68-171
4th year FG 42.9% 40.5% from 3 87-215

and now he is shooting 40% for us

Man if he can keep this up... that is amazing from 3. Every year in college he kept taking more 3's too, and was shooting it pretty damn good.

His FG was pretty bad though, hopefully that increases... then again all our of guards, Rio and Cole, shoot like that too, in the 40-43% range, smh. Rio improved atleast to 45% last year.

Let's see how he does once opponents adjust to him and stop giving him that dribble shot. He needs to develop at some point a game around the basket, something like Tony Parker fake move/off-the-backboard shot just to make the defense respect him.

God I hate that move. Mainly cause Tony has constantly killed us LOL.

Napier was playing well until the 4th quarter when he had a string of errors that contributed to the loss.

very happy with Napier. I think he will become a quality starting point guard. I think he will become a Kyle Lowry level of a player.

I gotta say I agree with having to have a veteran at every spot. It's one of the reasons I was interested in Chauncey Billups over the summer. Having him on the roster didn't mean he was going to play much (if at all), but it would have given Miami's PGs a real veteran to look up to that's proven his worth in this league and has wisdom to impart.

Most of the greats have had someone on the team to look up to. Even if it were someone that might have been a scrub by statistical standards, but when you ask the legends on Open Court and you hear them talk about some of the players they played with that helped them grow into the players they eventually became, you realize their value.

Roger Mason was someone like that last season; he gave you nothing on the court, but was huge for the team in the locker room and on the bench. The same goes for Juwan Howard as well. Remember those guys? Now, as far as a potential veteran type that could help with the wisdom and mentorship factor, I'm not sure who would be available. Maybe via a trade or something. Mike James? :lol:

He needs to be more aggressive, specifically in catch n shoot situations from three and even mid range. He over dribbles a lot ( to his credit anytime he dribbles more than 4 times his EFG% sky rockets, more comfortable with the ball in his hands and in late clock situations //via nba.com), often looking for an unnecessary passing lane, he is over-thinking and getting a bunch of turnovers.

With his physical stature he can't second guess anymore ( he misses a lot of wide open shots too via player tracking, more than he should), just go with the flow and get shots up, ones he is more than capable of making.

We all want the best for Napier. However, he will never learn unless he makes some mistakes. Right now, and at this stage Shabazz is shaping his own repertoire. This is the time when he should become creative and try new things. As an NBA player Shabazz wants to know what will work for him.
