dont think they are more honest im just saying I dont like advanced stats personally. Not because they aren't good or whatever its just something I dont like. I like watching a game and saying wow he is good or wow he sucks. When i watch aldridge for the most part he impacts the team and the game in a positive way. If were to look at advanced stats it would tell me he didnt. So again nothing against advanced stats I just like to judge players in a different way.[/quote]

Man I am watching the Pacers game on DVR. If your team has a worse record than the Pacers, shame on them. There's no excuse for that.
No Hill, West, Paul, CJ Watson this year and today no Hibbert either. No Stuckey or CJ Miles most of the games so far. Yet we are still within range of being .500?
Several of our players have a career high for minutes in a season already. This is absurd.

Re: Monday NOV 24th GT - Feature game - RAPS vs SUNS
But advanced stats are just... factual
Nobody thinks that Aldridge isnt a great player or that he doesnt make a team a lot better because he does. But he is what he is, which is a volume scorer. All of his shots look good because he can score from anywhere, but his reliance on long jumpers and not-quite-elite finishing ability makes him rather inefficient as a power forward. Thankfully hes such a threat from anywhere that he gives defenses a total headache and allows the players around him to get better. Thats why the addition of elite 3 point shooters and competent role platers was so critical to the Blazers huge leap. Its not like Aldridge was leading teams to the playoffs himself despite being in his prime for quite a while.
Most teams would love to have him on their team but add him to any ol squad and his impact probably wont be that great as it would be with the perfect combination of complementary parts like he has in Portland. If a team like the Clippers were to trade Griffin for Aldridge it would be extremely foolish since you cant just plug him into any offense and make his inefficient scoring an efficient addition to the offense. And comparing him to a guy like Dirk is just silly. Aldridge is to Dirk offensively what someone like Paul George is to Kevin Durant offensively. If Aldridge gives defenses headaches, Dirk in his prime makes defensive coaches heads explode. Dirk is one of the best offensive players of all time and was far and away the first option on many contenders and a championship team. Aldridge will never be far and away the best player on a contender. Thats just a fact.
(And if youre trying to insinuate that I should understand that Demar Derozan is inefficient... believe me, I know)

I wouldn't say he's inefficient. I would say he's not overly efficient like you ideally want from your top scorer. But, I mean, he posted a league-average ts% last year which is respectable enough considering the volume. Plus he turns the ball over just south of never, so that helps boost his ORTG. 110 ORTG is actually pretty good for the volume he puts up considering league average is 106.7. Not amazing like you get from top 10 players like Curry (117 ORTG), but still respectable. I guess Aldridge has the low tov thing going for him too, which helps him put up a decent enough ORTG.
Meh, DD and Aldridge are probably decent stars to me. Just not in the conversation with the top guys imo.
DD needs to get back to last years form though this year.

Take a look at their ts%. They're not in the same league efficiency-wise.

First off im comparing dirk now and not prime dirk lol. 2nd like I said I know advanced stats are better for comparisons sake im just saying for enjoyment sake I like judging players off of what I see. Is it a better representation of how good they are compared to advanced stats? No but its the way that is funnest for me thats all. And to raptornews I believe your name is sorry if I came after u in a negative way I just though you were coming after a player on my favorite team. No hard feelings

I had a bad feeling going into that game. Games like this and the Boston game Portland would have lost last year. Its games like these where I see the improvement.

Advanced efficiency stats are not at all hard to understand. I'll try to clear things up a bit. As we all know, FG% is the ratio of field goals made to field goals attempted. But this stat has its flaws, as a made three point shot is more valuable than a made two point shot. Because of this, eFG% is designed so that it gives three point shots the value they deserve. It is basically (FGM+3PM*0.5)/FGA. This one is much better than FG% as it gives a more accurate picture of how well a player has effected the score with his field goal attempts.
For example, player A is a post/mid-range player and he's converted 6 shots out of 12 while attempting no threes. Therefore his eFG% would be the same as his FG%, as he's made no three point shots (6/12= .500 eFG%).
Player B, on the other hand, is a perimeter shooter. He's struggled with his two point attempts (1-7), but somehow got hot from outside and converted 4 threes out of 5. His FG% then would be (1+4)/(7+5)= 5/12= .417. Not looking good, right? Well, you'd be wrong to think so, because he's made some three pointers. His eFG% is actually (5+4/2)/12= 7/12= .583, a number much higher than Player A.
If this sounds complicated, then this might be helpful: Both players have attempted 12 shots, but Player A now has 12 points while Player B has 14. Meanwhile Player A has a much higher FG% (.500) than Player B (.417). This goes to show how flawed of a stat FG% is to determine which player is more efficient.
Now, TS% is a little bit more complicated and it's not as perfect as eFG%, but it's more valuable as it also takes free throws into account. Stats like ORtg are designed so that they also account for turnovers, offensive fouls and such, but this is where things get really interesting, because they don't care how high is a player's usage is. Thus, generally low-volume garbage scoring guys, guys with limited offensive games, finishers, or spot up shooters tend to post a really high ORtg. It's only relevant when comparing guys with similar USG%.
I hope this helps.

Dirk right now has a TS% of 62%, which if he keeps it up would be his career high TS% and an absolutely insane number. After slowing down in 2012-2013 Dirk is putting up advanced stats that are comparable to his 2007-2008 year. He's having an absolutely crazy season so far. LMA has a TS% of 53.5%, which is right around his career average. That said, he's also having an absolutely great season, posting career-highs in a # of categories, so it's not like the comparison isn't kind of justified anyway, efficiency aside.
I just think it's funny you say Dirk now vs. Prime Dirk, when actually Dirk now is playing a lot like Prime Dirk.

Smart.
On Gerald Henderson vs Derozan:
"Yes. Hendo is quite a bit better than DeMar.
So yes, I do believe he's currently the better player and do project that will continue to be in the future. I would also take Turner over DD."

Well I only watch you guys when you play the Bulls, and I don't see strong wing defense or strong interior defenders when I do. But congrats on having a decent defense.

Wonder why Kerr kept his starters in for so long when he game was pretty much over. Does he always do this? For a team that is always plagued with injuries, I'd want to get them off the court asap.
