Yeah. When he played, he looked pretty much OK. Not MVP level, but still pretty good.

It really is the best example I could find of what I fear will be his carreer from now on. in 2004/2005 Grant hill had a very productive season for example, playing 65+ games, going for almost 20ppg with solid %. But he couldn't sustain this type of solid play, he kept getting injured.
My take is that when Rose can string some games together and get in a rythm, he will be a 20ppg/7asts type of player. But unfortunately injuries, ryhtm issues will probably often derail that. Anyway this is pure conjecturing on my part, just my gut feeling.

Out of all the injuries, I think this Hamstring injury is most telling. These type of injuries happen when your body is misaligned and I'm afraid it will be recurring for Rose.
Nevertheless, when he does play, he plays pretty well.

He can become a better player then he was by adding better outside shooting but he'll never be on a team that will depend on his scoring like it did back in his MVP year.
This team will.
Interesting, Deng and Boozer were the only double digit players Chicago has lost and a 3pt specialist who scored 8.3 pts per game, not to mention our SG(Brewer/Bogans) which averaged 6.2 pts and 4.4 pts respectively. Gibson was the 6th highest PPG player from that squad dropping 7.1 pts a night.
This team just has way more offensive talent. Gasol will cover Boozer's scoring. MD3 and McDermott will get 20 of the 25 Deng and Korver brought, Butler and Hinrich will blow away Brewer and Bogan's production and then the other players off the bench? Gibson will easily outscore anyone he had on the bench back then, A.Brooks will be more productive then Watson. Our 4th big(Mirotic) is light years ahead of where Asik was offensively.
This year's Bulls are way more diverse and unlike that old Bulls team, Rose won't be focused on defensively by the whole team like he once was because of the added offense and the diversity of that offense.

We have witnessed that already this year (Pre-season against the Cavs for example, where he went for 30 in like 28 minutes), that was a near MVP-like Derrick. He added some range and shot to his game (even though i think his form is really ugly from outside, leading to a lot of short shots) which can help his offensive game.
The thing is, dude is a mess mentally. Like seriously, and i'm not kidding here, he probably has nightmares everynight about getting injured again.
When he came off the pre-season and in team USA he was playing great and was fearless. Once he sprained his ankle he started to feel the pressure from the media and everyone else around him. Then he hurt his Hamstring. Put yourself in his shoes now.
Last game against Denver, i believe he wasn't hurt, i believe that when he left he didn't hurt himself, he got scared when going for that rebound. You can see that when he was landing he was looking down on the floor to try to not step on anybody's foot. He got scared and asked to leave.
Now, he has got to let all of this fear behind him. He wasn't even driving to the rim that game, he was just passing the ball and shooting some crazy 3pt shots.
Once he plays some games he will lose that fear and start to play like D.Rose again, and physically we have seen that he has his old speed and quickness, plus a better outside shot and some floaters. In theory, that makes him a better player than he was before he got injured. Let's see, key here is consistency, not only being healthy but being able to play every match with the same attitude and not doubt himself and or fear something might happen.
