QB Options for Next Year

Post#1 » by NinerSickness » Fri Nov 28, 2014 8:53 am

Which option do you like the best?

Cutler?
Eli Manning?
Mark Sanchez for relatively cheap?
Jake Locker for relatively cheap?
Marcus Mariota? (Please God no; Kaep 2.0).
Jameis Winston? (Please God no; Jamarcus Russell 2.0).
Bryce Petty? Tempting.
Brett Hundley?
Sean Mannion?
Trade for Tyler Bray?
Kirk Cousins?

Who's your guy? I'm leaning towards Sanchez + one of those draft picks. Maybe Petty. But how can you be a good QB in the NFL with a name like Bryce Petty? It's a long shot. I've been burned before by drafting QBs with terrible names (Jim Druckenmiller).

Although I'm really tempted to see if NY would trade Eli for Kaepernick straight up.

Realistically Kap is going to be on the roster for at least one more season but the team needs someone that can realistically push him and I'm more inclined to go for a Jake Locker who has a chance to be one of those guys that will blossom in a better situation.

Of course it's hard to answer the question right now because we simply don't know who the coach is going to be next season yet.

I agree, I think Kap will be here still. I say draft a developmental QB just in case. Not ready to give up on Kap yet. Yes he deserves some blame but not all.

When this list starts with Cutler and Eli, you know it's bull.

And then to top it all off it ends with Kirk Cousins who couldn't even beat out a hobbled, zero mechanics RG3.

Sick also needs to put away his hate for Manning.....he didn't snub the Niners. He snubbed Harbs. There are quotes out there about Harbs making comments during their throwing session that his arm was stronger than Manning's, or he could throw it harder, or something along those lines. His personality turns people off....either immediately or eventually.

I think we are seeing that.....the FO probably hoped they could make it work one more season because a regime change will set us back a year or two, especially if we pick the wrong guy.

There probably needs to be a 2015 HC thread.....

Winston is Russell 2.0? Woah.

Out of those options the best and most feasible for us, IMO, is Jake Locker. Like I said a couple of weeks ago, I'd sign him as soon as FA opened.

Kirk Cousins and Geno Smith for me as well if Locker doesn't work out.

I feel like I'm the only G. Smith fan left in the world.

*Butters voice* Aww, shucks, fellas... Kaepernick will get better. His jersey sells really well! :)

Jamarcus
was the first name that came to mind because both Winton & he have serious deficiencies I the non-athletic department. I have no faith in Winston's brain.

I'm not sure Locker is extremely different from Kaepernck, but at least he'd be a lot cheaper. I prefer Sanchez at this point.

Someone on Webzone said we need to get a QB in the draft to push Kaepernick (saying that a FA won't do because if the FA is better, why push Kaepernick, just replace him) and an OC to replace Roman, waking up both. He doesn't want to give up on Kaepernick but believes it's part play calling and part not being pushed. Can't disagree with the steps (drafting and new OC) if you get the right ones, it's just who? Not sure if Kaepernick is a lost cause or a good bridge. Not sure if pushing will do anything. As always, I'll leave room for door 3, him getting it and being more than a bridge QB.

I'd trade Kaep. Sign Hoyer and draft a QB.

Or

Trade Harbaugh and Kaep to the Raiders for Carr and a pick.

I live in Cleveland. Hoyer is OK, he'd be a good backup I think. He is not a starting caliber QB.

He would be a good bridge to the rookie.
