Player Predictions : Mitch McGary

Post#1 » by Podirk » Fri Oct 3, 2014 7:04 pm

Mitch McGary :

Bouncing from the Blue to the Thunder to start the season McGary will average 7 mpg spanning 15 games while NC or Perk nurse injuries. McGary will be the second leading scorer for the Blue (second to Semaj) but lead the Blue in assists.

Bold Prediction : McGary will make a SCTop10 highlight in the Regular and Post Season.

McGary is almost back, what do y'all see for him ?

Me, I think he'll have a tough time taking minutes from Nick and Perk, probably do a lot of up and down with the Blue, but some Thunder fans on Twitter think he's gonna be a contributor. IDK, myself.

Just askin ...........

If you look at our big man rotation KD SI SA NC KP it's hard to find min for Mitch. However I think with little nagging injuries he could see some extended time sometime during the season.

If he plays anything close to the way he played in Summer League and the 1st game of preseason then i want him eating up Perkins and Collison minutes.

Maybe I over rate the value of veterans, or how long it takes to learn to play NBA basketball, but I just can't see a rookie taking minutes from those two. And that's especially applicable to playing defense. McGary has that short jumper that he's pretty automatic with, but can he defend the rim ? I think whatever ya gained offensively , ya give that back up and more, on the other end.

Collison makes all the right plays, I wouldn't want Mitch taking minutes from him. Perk on the other hand I'm all for experimenting with.

Im fine with Mcgary getting garbage time minutes this year and learning from Nick. Depending on what Nick does next year, possible retirement, he will be inserted into the rotation next year. Perk has come back better and in good shape this year and has earned his minutes thus far.
    PG: Westbrook/Jackson/Smith
    SG: Roberson/Morrow/Lamb
    SF: Durant/Jones/Lamb
    PF: Ibaka/Collison/McGary
    C: Adams/Perkins

He won't replace what Perk does on defense, along with those 11 years of experience.

McGary has offensive skills, but does he know where he needs to be on the court ?

I may be over rating veteran experience, but until someone proves different to me, I think its pretty important especially on defense, which is mosty about play recognition, communication, and positioning.
